Shifflet Named CAA Coach of the Year

Former Hofstra University Head Wrestling Coach Tom Shifflet, who resigned last month following the Pride’s fourth Colonial Athletic Association championship in his five seasons, has been named the 2011 CAA Wrestling Coach of the Year, the CAA announced Tuesday.   Shifflet  was the head coach at University of North Carolina-Greensboro before coming to Hofstra.
Shifflet led the Pride to a 14-4-1 regular season dual match record including a 5-1 mark against CAA opposition, the program’s ninth CAA title in the past 10 years, and a 26th-place finish at the 2011 NCAA Division I Championships in Philadelphia. In the process, Shifflet and his staff produced four conference champions, seven NCAA qualifiers and two All-Americans in 2011. It is his third CAA Coach of the Year award after earning the honor in 2007 and 2009.
