Harold Henson, first African-American to wrestle at NCAAs, passes away

Colonel Harold Henson, a college wrestling pioneer who was the first African-American to compete at the NCAA championships, passed away Jan. 11, his family reported via email Saturday, Jan. 18. He was 90. Wrestling for San Diego State University, Henson made history by competing at the 1949 NCAA Wrestling Championships, held at Colorado State University in Fort Collins on March 25-26.
