NC STATE Falls to #12 Virginia 22-10

NC State records wins at 149, 184 and 285 pounds
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State wrestling team fell to No. 12 Virginia Sunday in Reynolds Coliseum, 22-10. The Pack recorded a major decision at 285 pounds to open the ACC dual, and also gained decisions at 149 and 184 pounds. The dual started at 285 pounds and the Pack jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Redshirt-sophomore #5 Nick Gwiazdowski scored a 14-4 major decision over #25 Nathan Hayes to start the dual. Gwiazdowski improves to 31-2 on the season, and a perfect 16-0 in duals. All 16 wins have been bonus point victories. Virginia came back with three straight decisions at 125, 133 and 141 pounds, as the Cavs took a 9-4 lead after the first four bouts. The Pack got three points back at 149 pounds, as freshman #26 Brian Hamann scored a 2-1 win to get the Pack within 9-7 at the midway point. After the intermission, Virginia came away with decisions at 157 and 174 pounds, as well as a major decision at 165 to take a 19-7 lead going into the final two bouts. NC State freshman Michael Macchiavello claimed the Pack’s third win of the day, earning a 6-4 decision over James Suvak at 184 pounds. The Cavs closed the dual with a decision at 197 pounds for the final score of 22-10. The Pack’s final four duals will be on the road. Next weekend, NC State will compete at Maryland on Friday night at 7 p.m., and then at American on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.
