Maryland
University of Maryland Wrestling ended the regular season with a 9-8 dual record, 3-3 in the ACC. The team was led by #1-ranked Jimmy Sheptock (17-0 dual record), #7-ranked Spencer Myers (14-2 dual record) and #9-ranked Christian Boley (12-2 dual record).   The Terps travel down to Virginia Tech at the Cassell Coliseum on March 8th for the ACC Wrestling Championships. Tickets bought in advance online are $5; they are $10 at the door. All students with a valid ACC School ID will receive free admission.  Terrapin Pride Gala, and once again, thank you for all of your support this season!
Stanford is hosting the 2014 Pac-12 Wrestling Championships Sun., Mar. 2 in Maples Pavilion. The first session begins at 10:30 a.m., the second at 3:30 p.m. with the finals beginning at 5 p.m.
SIUE – Cougars Close Out Road Trip
BOONE, N.C. – SIUE wrestling’s six-match North Carolina road trip came to an end Sunday as the Cougars completed their 2013-14 Southern Conference schedule.  The Cougars finished the regular season with a 5-19 record overall and a 2-5 record in SoCon action after a 26-21 loss to Davidson and a 27-12 loss to Appalachian State.  SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates said the six matches in five days appeared to have affected the Cougars.
Cougars Drop Two vs. Citadel, UNC
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – SIUE wrestling dropped a pair of matches Saturday, falling to Southern Conference (SoCon) rival The Citadel 34-3 and non-conference host North Carolina 32-15.  “We didn’t come out wrestling hard, and we didn’t win a couple of close matches against The Citadel,” said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. “We wrestled a little bit better against North Carolina. We were more aggressive in that match.”  SIUE 285-pounder David Devine was the lone double winner. He defeated The Citadel’s Joe Bexley 5-2 and then UNC’s Bob Coe 8-1.
2014 NAIA Wrestling National Championships at the Kansas Expocentre in Topeka, Kan., March 7 – 8. The 57th annual national championships are a two-day, four-session event featuring 210 total qualifiers. The championship bouts are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. CST on Saturday, March 8.  Automatic qualification took place this past Saturday at one of the four NAIA Qualifying Group Tournaments. The top four wrestlers in each weight class received the automatic berth (160 total wrestlers). Additionally, 50 at-large entries were allocated across the four groups. For a recap and results from the group qualifiers, click here.  The complete list of qualifiers will be announced Thursday, Feb. 27 on www.NAIA.org.  Preliminary brackets will be released early next week.
Drexel Falls to Penn on Senior Night, 20-10
Philadelphia, Pa. – The Drexel wrestling team fell to neighborhood rival Penn, 20-10, on Senior Night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center Saturday evening. With the loss, the Dragons finished their regular season at 7-15 overall and 1-6 EIWA, while the Quakers improve to 8-6, 7-4 EIWA.  Penn jumped out to an early lead with an 8-3 decision in the 125 match. The Dragons will return to action when they compete in the EIWA Tournament beginning on March 8. The squad will travel down 33rd street to the Palestra, where this year’s conference tournament is being hosted.
Hofstra Falls At No. 4 Cornell         Release: Saturday, February 22, 2014
Ithaca, NY – Senior Luke Vaith, junior Cody Ruggirello and graduate-student Joe Booth each posted bonus-point victories for the Pride but the Big Red won six of the 10 matches as fourth-ranked Cornell defeated Hofstra in an EIWA match at the Friedman Wrestling Center Saturday afternoon.  Vaith, ranked 10th by InterMat at 141 pounds, defeated Joe Rendina by tech fall, 21-5 to boost his season record to 25-5. Ruggirello tallied his team-leading eighth pin of the season with a fall over Connor David in 59 seconds at 149 pounds. Booth, who tallied his 99th career victory, tallied his second tech fall of the year, defeating Jacob George, 23-8 at 165. Vaith and Ruggirello (22-8) closed out the match with Hofstra victories. Hofstra is now 6-10 overall in dual matches including a 4-3 slate in the EIWA while Cornell is 13-1 overall and 9-0 in conference matches.  The two programs now prepare for the EIWA Championships at the Palestra in Philadelphia on Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9.
