Open Wrestling Workouts @ ECU

We will again be offering free, open workouts on the ECU mat this school year.  We do this one Sunday a month for the benefit of area wrestling.  There’s a little wrestling, but these workouts are mostly instructional in nature offering mat-time with our college coaches.    East of I-95 ECU is your best source of open workouts and technique clinics.  Here is our schedule:

September 27     3:00 – 5:00 (all workouts at the same time)

takedown defense, stance drill, standing switch, ½ Nelson

October 18 – stand-up, crossface cradle, roll

November 22 – low single, basic legs, duck-under

January 24 – bars, granby, td set-ups

February 14  – tilts, standing roll, td blocks

March 20  – drags, fake su/switch, bow & arrow, fake switch/roll

April 17  – overcradle, counter top moves, hip throw

We expect to see a lot of motivated athletes on the mat.  Coaches:  We hope you will post this information and distribute it to your prospective team members.  If you know you will have several wrestlers attending, contact us if you want something specific covered.   Wrestlers:  All of your opponents go to practice just like you do; champions need to do something extra to get ahead.

NOTE:  Our 5th annual ECU Fall Wrestling Clinic was held on Sat, Nov. 14th.   We will also have a Spring Wrestling Clinic.  For information on the clinic or Open Workouts contact Coach Milt Sherman at shermanm@ecu.edu  A clinic flyer will be sent out later.

Workouts are held at the Student Rec Center on campus at 7th & Cotanche Streets

*Parking is available in the lot at 9th & Cotanche Streets.
