About 21/2 years ago, Dan Catarello, a local chiropractor and former college wrestler, and Pat O’Connell, a longtime Joliet Township/Joliet Central wrestling coach, struck up a friendship. Almost immediately, their conversation swung toward their passion. The questions was posed: Why shouldn’t Joliet Junior College reinstate its once-renowned wrestling program? The program, which rose to national prominence during the tenure of Hall of Fame coach and administrator Henry Pillard, has been gone since 1987. Catarello and O’Connell decided to get to work on reinstatement.
