Brandon Nelsen Joins Duke Wrestling Staff
DURHAM, N.C.—Duke University wrestling head coach Glen Lanham has announced the addition of Brandon Nelsen to the coaching staff as an assistant coach starting in the 2016-2017 season. Nelsen will work primarily with the lighter weights in the wrestling room and will be crucial in recruiting efforts.
“I have known Brandon since he was a sophomore in high school and it’s been great following his development on and off the mat,” said Lanham. “I’m very excited about all he will bring to our wrestling program.” “I am very excited for the opportunity that has been given to me by head coach Glen Lanham,” said Nelsen. “I have the utmost respect for him and what his vision is for Duke wrestling in the future. Coach Lanham was one of the first coaches to recruit me in high school and although our paths separated I am very glad to be coaching alongside he and Ben Wissel. I am looking forward to helping build what it means to be a Duke wrestler both on and off of the mat.” Nelsen comes to Durham after spending a year as graduate assistant at the University of Indianapolis. During his time in Indianapolis Nelsen worked primarily with the lightweight group as well as helped mentor a pair of All-Americans at 125 and 133 pounds, which included a runner-up finish at NCAA Division II Championships at 133 pounds.
