DURHAM, N.C.—Duke University wrestling head coach Glen Lanham has announced the 2016-17 schedule. The Blue Devils will wrestle at home four times, including against Big Ten foe Wisconsin and ACC rival North Carolina. Duke kicks off the campaign, the fifth for Lanham, with the annual Hokie Open Nov. 6 in Roanoke, Va. The Blue Devils captured three Hokie Open titles a year ago, including ones from returning wrestlers Jake Faust and Connor Bass. The Blue Devils open dual action the following weekend, Nov. 12, against Oregon State and Coker College at Appalachian State. Those matches are set to begin at 12 and 2 p.m., respectively. It is the first meeting between Duke and the Beavers, while Oregon State is third Pac-12 wrestling programs the Blue Devils have faced under Lanham. A week later, Nov. 19, Duke will make its home debut in Card Gymnasium against Big Ten foe Wisconsin for the first time in program history. Duke defeated a pair of Big Ten opponents during the 2014-15 season and upset a ranked Purdue squad last season. The Badgers finished 23rd at the 2016 NCAA Championships and eighth at the grueling Big Ten Championships. The match with Wisconsin will be the ninth different Big Ten program Duke has wrestled under Lanham. BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell wrestling head coach Cary Kolat has announced the 2016-17 match schedule.
The Fighting Camels have three home matches on the slate this season, all conference opponents. The first home contest takes place Jan. 20 at 6 p.m., against Gardner-Webb inside Carter Gym. Feb. 11 Campbell hosts SIUE at noon and one week later, VMI pays a visit for the season finale at 5 p.m.
“It’s tremendously important that we have a solid fan base, for our program’s health, the guys mental health and the school,” ” Kolat stated on the three home matches this season. “Finishing with three duals at home I feel we should have 3 Ws in there. We want to pack Carter Gym for every single one of those duals, sell it out and make it a great environment for our guys and our fans. ”
Saturday, March 4 in Charleston, S.C. will be the 2017 South Conference Championships, where Campbell looks to build on its two first place winners from last year’s tournament. Nathan Kraisser took home the title in the 133-pound weight class with his 10-0 win. Ville Heino claimed the 184-pound championship with his 6-5 decision in the championship match.
