Wolfpack showcases talent at Brickyard Bash

By Alec Sawyer of The Technician
The NC State wrestling team gave students a unique look at the team Wednesday. Members of the team wrestled throughout the day in the brickyard outside of D.H. Hill Library in an event the team calls “The Brickyard Bash.”  Students gathered to watch and interact with the Wolfpack wrestlers. The season starts next month for the team and the event is a good way for the team to reach out to the student body. Wrestlers and coaches hung out around the event talking to students and handing out team schedules. The event is a great way to let people know what the wrestling team is all about, according to head coach Pat Popolizio.  “We just want to promote awareness for our upcoming season,” Popolizio said. “It puts an end to our preseason so it’s kind of just a last day event. It makes an exciting atmosphere for the guys.” Rest of the story at www.technicianonline.com/sports/ncsubrickyard

By Taylor Miller, USA Wrestling | Oct. 05, 2016,

The nation is starting to take renewed notice of the University of North Carolina’s wrestling program, and that’s exactly what Head Coach Coleman Scott wants.  Scott, a 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, is entering his second year as the head coach at UNC and his third year overall and is looking to return North Carolina to the elite level of college wrestling. “We’re in the young phases of our program as a whole, but I believe we have the right guys in the right places,” Scott said. “The pieces of the puzzle are there and we’re just putting it together. We’re on the right track at a fast pace.”  A 2008 NCAA champion for Oklahoma State, Scott was brought on prior to the 2014-15 season as an assistant coach to CD Mock. The next year, the North Carolina athletic department announced Scott as the new head coach as a result of Mock’s retirement.  Rest of the story at www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Features/North-Carolina-sets-high-goals-with-fresh-coaching-staff
