Camels turning the corner in January
TDR Editor’s Notes ; Good to see the Campbell Camels improving.

Cary Kolat admits that Campbell’s season hasn’t unfolded perfectly. As the final month of the season looms, the Camels are 5-6 in dual meets, with a 1-1 record in the Southern Conference. But with a league-heavy schedule leading into March, Kolat is confident his team will be at his best when it matters most. “If you see our record, see the dual meets we were in as a team, we’ve wrestled inconsistent,” he said. “There are times when you send a team out on a mat and you know what you’re getting, but we’re young in areas and we know what we’re getting there. But with training improving and how the last few competitions went, we feel like we’re about to turn a corner. That’s the way myself and our staff feel about that. We’re competing hard.” A 24-13 loss at Appalachian State in mid-December was disappointing, but following a 23-15 loss to Bucknell at the Virginia Duals, Kolat saw something change with his team. Narrow losses to Arizona State and Old Dominion, as well as a 26-16 win over Kent State, were followed by a 24-12 win over fellow SoCon contender Gardner-Webb. “I felt we had a poor performance against Bucknell but mentally turned a corner after that,” Kolat said. “We got back in school, second semester and got back to class, studying and consistent in practicing like we had, and it’s been great. We’re training like veterans.”

KING’S COACH NED McGINLEY TO RETIRE AFTER 48 SEASONS
TDR Editor’s Notes ; We like to recognize long time college coaches. Coach McGinley started their program almost 50 years ago and is one of the longest serving.
********************************************************
WILKES-BARRE — Last month it was revealed by the National Wrestling Media Association that King’s College head wrestling coach Ned McGinley was the longest-tenured active head wrestling coach at all levels of NCAA wrestling. Now, after 48 years at the helm of the Monarchs, McGinley has decided the 2016-17 season will be his last. McGinley formally made the announcement at a press conference Thursday in King’s Scandlon Gymnasium. McGinley and King’s Wrestling go hand-in-hand. To say McGinley ‘is King’s College Wrestling’ would not be an exaggeration. After all, McGinley started wrestling at King’s in 1968 and has been the only head coach in program history. The Monarchs began as a Division II program but joined the NCAA Division III ranks in 1980 when King’s became a member of the Middle Atlantic Conference.
