Camels turning the corner in January

TDR Editor’s Notes ; Good to see the Campbell Camels improving.

Cary Kolat admits that Campbell’s season hasn’t unfolded perfectly. As the final month of the season looms, the Camels are 5-6 in dual meets, with a 1-1 record in the Southern Conference. But with a league-heavy schedule leading into March, Kolat is confident his team will be at his best when it matters most. “If you see our record, see the dual meets we were in as a team, we’ve wrestled inconsistent,” he said. “There are times when you send a team out on a mat and you know what you’re getting, but we’re young in areas and we know what we’re getting there. But with training improving and how the last few competitions went, we feel like we’re about to turn a corner. That’s the way myself and our staff feel about that. We’re competing hard.” A 24-13 loss at Appalachian State in mid-December was disappointing, but following a 23-15 loss to Bucknell at the Virginia Duals, Kolat saw something change with his team. Narrow losses to Arizona State and Old Dominion, as well as a 26-16 win over Kent State, were followed by a 24-12 win over fellow SoCon contender Gardner-Webb. “I felt we had a poor performance against Bucknell but mentally turned a corner after that,” Kolat said. “We got back in school, second semester and got back to class, studying and consistent in practicing like we had, and it’s been great. We’re training like veterans.”
