Patience is virtue for The Citadel

TDR Editor’s Notes ; Citadel is having a down year yet Coach Hjerling has a strong tradition and program and they are looking at doing well in the post season.

The operative word inside The Citadel’s wrestling room this year? Patience. Veteran coach Rob Hjerling and his team don’t have much choice. The Bulldogs are a young squad, starting three freshmen and four sophomores, and a 2-7 dual-meet record entering Sunday’s home faceoff against Campbell shows that. However, Hjerling says he sees his team getting better, “even if the overall team results don’t reflect that on paper.” “We’re not looking past this year,” he said. “We have some key individuals that are looking to finish strong and from a coaching standpoint, the staff is keeping the team results in perspective. We know we’re developing, getting better. We’re focusing on getting better and eventually the results will show.” Staying positive, Hjerling says, is key. “The coaching staff has to be patient. We’ve been at this a little while, we’ve set a standard for what success is and these guys know what the overall expectations are,” he said. “There are expectations on our end, but there’s no acceptance of not improving.
