BOONE, N.C. — With first place on the line, the day wouldn’t get any less dramatic over the course of 10 weight classes as Appalachian State University wrestling went to the tie-breaking rules to defeat Chattanooga, 17-16 (55-54), on Sunday afternoon in Varsity Gym. The 16th-ranked Mountaineers (12-2, 6-0 Southern Conference) were tied with the Mocs (5-9, 3-2 SoCon) at the end of the match, 16-all. The first tiebreaker is the total amount of weight classes won, but even then, the two teams were tied at five apiece.
