Wolfpack and Tar Heels beat Nebraska in Lincoln.

Editor’s Note; As a Cornhusker alumni I have some mixed feelings on these matches. Glad and proud of our North Carolina teams performing well.

LINCOLN, NEB. – The No. 6 NC State wrestling team won nine of the 10 matches, including the final eight, and came away with a 29-3 win at No. 12 Nebraska Friday night. The Wolfpack (10-0) also scored three individual top-10 wins on the night. The teams also met for the fourth straight season, and the road team has won each time out. Starting at 157 pounds, #16 R-Fr. Hayden Hidlay started out the Pack with a top-10 upset. The reigning ACC Wrestler of the Week improved to a perfect 8-0 on the season with his 6-3 win over #7 Tyler Berger. Hidlay started with a takedown in the first, then a reversal and another takedown in the third scored the upset win. Donahue Earns Degree, Hits Mat to Face Top-10 Foe Friday Night

Editor’s Note; This story is from last month yet a good one about a true competitive ‘student-athlete’ from N.C. State.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
RALEIGH, N.C. – Not only will the NC State wrestling team be in action Friday night, as the #6 Wolfpack travels to #12 Nebraska for a key out-of-conference dual, but NC State’s Fall Graduation also takes place on Friday. That posed a bit of a dilemma for Beau Donahue. Not only is Donahue the Pack’s starter at 149 pounds in his final season, but the redshirt-senior from Centreville, Va., is also earning his undergrad degree this week. “I think my mom might be more upset then anybody that I will not be walking Friday,” said Donahue. “I want to do it (walk in the graduation ceremony) more for my family then myself to be honest. They have helped me in so many ways over the years get to this part of my life. I actually worked it out where I will get to be in the ceremony this Spring, with a few of my teammates at the same time, so that will be nice.” Donahue will be earning his degree in business administration, with a concentration in information technology. Duals state tournament added to mix this season in Florida

Editor’s Note; Wrestling is a team sport and steps like this help emphasize the team aspect can only help bring more fan attention and support. Glad to see this.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
In high school wrestling, the postseason individual tournament is everything. Now everything has changed. Beginning this season, the Florida High School Athletic Association has added an in-season team duals state championship tournament. “The new duals tournament will emphasize the team aspect of wrestling,” said Robbie Lindeman, the FHSAA’s wrestling administrator. “This was brought to us by the wrestling coaches advisory committee and worked through by athletic directors and our board of directors. Everybody is looking forward to having a state team playoff tournament.” Rest of the story at http://www.naplesnews.com/story/sports/high-school/wrestling/2017/11/29/prep-wrestling-duals-state-tournament-added-mix-season/905404001/?mc_cid=b2427e3699&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
