Fresno State Wrestling makes return in style finishing No. 5 nationally in attendance
TDR Editor’s Notes; OK, this news is from a while back yet it is positive news about the return of a Division I program and how they had great attendance at their matches. Other Division I schools who foolishly dropped wrestling in the past should take notice of this and make the right move to re-start their programs. They know who they are.

FRESNO, Calif. – In its first year back as a program after an 11-year hiatus, Fresno State Wrestling made a national statement in its return finishing the 2017-18 season fifth in the nation in home attendance. “I just want to thank the Red Wave for a great start,” said head coach Troy Steiner. “Bringing wrestling back to the Valley was the right decision and we are going to build this program into something very special. We understand we must do our part and put a exciting product on the mat that is entertaining to watch and we will work to do that as we continue to climb. GO DOGS!”
With an average home attendance of 4,566 at the ‘Dogs six home duals this season, Fresno State ranked fifth in the country as they were only surpassed by Big Ten programs Iowa, Penn State, Ohio State and Rutgers nationally.
