Missouri votes to add official girls high school wrestling, becoming the ninth state in the USA

TDR Editor’s Notes; Not only will three states be adding girls wrestling as a sanctioned high school sport for next season but also at least 11 colleges will be adding women’s programs. This is in addition to the 7 new college programs this past season and two more have been announced for the 2019-2020 season. There have been two programs dropped for last season and two more for next year but half of those have been due to the closure of the school and the other two are in Canada.

The Missouri State High School Activities Association, which oversees high school athletics in Missouri, has voted to make girls wrestling an official high school sport. The proposal is effective on July 1, which means the girls program will go into effect for the next Missouri high school wrestling season. Missouri becomes the ninth state to officially add girls wrestling as a sport at the high school level. The change was approved in Proposal 18 (Girls Wrestling), which passed with 202 voting in favor and 41 against.
PROPOSAL 18 – (Girls Wrestling) – (PASSED) – 202 FOR, 41 AGAINST
Amends By-Laws 5.1, 3.29.6, and 3.30.3.l to separate the currently co-educational sport of wrestling into sex-separated wrestling for both boys and girls. The details of the implementation of girls wrestling in Missouri have not yet been announced. Missouri becomes the third state this season to add high school girls wrestling, along with Georgia and Oregon. A number of other state associations are currently actively addressing girls high school for their state, with the possibility of more official announcements soon. Hawaii, Texas, California, Washington, Tennessee and Alaska host the other state-sanctioned girls wrestling championships. Colorado has approved pilot seasons for the next two years for girls wrestling, the initial step towards state sanctioning for girls wrestling, to begin in winter 2020-21. Sincere King wins 2018 Michael Stokes Award

TDR Editor’s Notes; The following are three pictures taken quickly during the Senior Awards Night last week at North Pitt. The 2018 Award goes to Sincere King on the left and Michael Stokes on the right. Pick the one that you like best. Sincere may look a bit anxious to get back on into the auditorium as he was about to be called for some other awards. Yes it is tough being a popular guy. We wish him the best of success for next year. Now the camera man who took these pictures must be replaced as he left out the short that King and Stokes are holding below the trophy but one can only see the top edge of it. We must get someone better to take our pictures.

Kyle Snyder wins AAU Sullivan Award as nation’s best amateur athlete, only fourth wrestler ever

TDR Editor’s Notes; Great to see recognition and honors to a successful wrestler. We are still waiting to see a wrestler on the Sports Illustrated cover. Maybe if a wrestler were to wear a skimpy bathing suit then that would be considered sports worthy enough. I hope not but sadly this may be more likely than being a 4 time National Champ or 6 time World Champ has of being on the cover.
