South Beach Duals are getting bigger and better in Year Two

Editor’s Notes; The Wolfpack has a new destination for the end of the year during the holiday break. While it is a bit farther away the Southern Scuffle in Tennessee or western North Carolina yet it will be much warmer for the wrestlers and fans in Florida.

The South Beach Duals are getting bigger and better in Year Two.
North Carolina State, Virginia, Lehigh and Wyoming are joining the field. So are Indiana, Purdue, West Virginia and Utah Valley. And all of the top teams from last year’s inaugural field — Cornell, Missouri, Minnesota, North Carolina, Michigan State, North Dakota State, Kent State and SIU Edwardsville — are back for the second year of the South Beach Duals. This year’s event features 16 teams — four more than a year ago — and a new home. The Fort Lauderdale Convention Center will serve as the venue for this year’s South Beach Duals, which will be held once again on Dec. 29-30 and streamed live on Trackwrestling. The addition of North Carolina State, Lehigh and Wyoming means seven teams that finished in the top 20 in March at the NCAA Championships will be in the field in Fort Lauderdale. “They were seeking out some teams and it just fell into our schedule this year,” North Carolina State coach Pat Popolizio said. “We needed to see some other teams that we typically don’t get to see, so that was part of it, too.” Popolizio said his team will likely spend at least five days in South Florida, following a blueprint similar to the one used last year by Cornell and Missouri, which rented a house big enough for their entire team to stay under one roof and train into the New Year.
