As popularity of high school wrestling increases, Bixby standout Ainslie Lane helps push for girls state tournament
Even in Oklahoma they are looking to add Girl’s Wrestling division.

Ainslie Lane will never get to participate in an all-girls high school state tournament and likely will never win an individual state title. But she wants to make sure others have the opportunity she’s going to miss. MATT BARNARD/Tulsa World
Evidence suggests rapid growth in girls and women’s wrestling at the state and national levels. Participation in local youth programs is mushrooming. This school year, 10 state associations will sanction all-girls state tournaments and seven more are involved in pilot programs or serious discussions about moving forward with the sport.
Now, it’s time for Oklahoma to get into the act, OSSAA wrestling chairman Todd Goolsby said. Goolsby has seen the trend and recognizes the possibilities.

Court rules EMU violated Title IX in dropping women’s sports
We hope that wrestling would be considered if sports teams are reinstated.

YPSILANTI, MI – A federal court granted a preliminary injunction Thursday, Sept. 27, temporarily halting the elimination of two women’s sports teams at Eastern Michigan University. U.S. District Court Judge George Caram Steeh ruled that there was a “clear showing that (EMU is) in violation of Title IX,” meaning the university must work out a plan to bring back its women’s softball and tennis teams.
The judge ordered EMU and the two-former student-athletes who filed the complaint enter a status conference with the court on Oct. 23, to discuss the implementation of the court’s order. “The court recognizes that its ability to craft a solution is limited and that often the parties are in a better position to accommodate the interests of both sides,” the ruling states.
