Atlantic Coast Conference Announces Wrestlers ofthe Week

Duke’s Finesilver, NC State’s Hidlay recognized

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference has recognized two winners from last Sunday’s Hokie Open as the first ACC Wrestlers of the Week of the 2018-19 season. Duke senior Mitch Finesilver (149 pounds) and NC State sophomore Hayden Hidlay (157) were honored following their outstanding performances in the event, which took place in Roanoke, Virginia.

ACC Co-Wrestler of the Week – Mitch Finesilver, Duke, Sr.; Greenwood Village, Colo.  
Finesilver had a strong start to the 2018-19 campaign, winning the 149-pound title at the Hokie Open.En route to the top spot on the podium, Finesilver defeated a pair of top 20 foes, including No. 14 Ryan Blees of Virginia Tech 6-1 in the championship bout. He also defeated No. 17 Austin O’Connor of UNC 3-2 in the semifinals. His earlier-round victories included a pair of technical falls. Ranked eighth nationally at 149 pounds, the four wins pushed his career total to 65 victories.

ACC Co-Wrestler of theWeek – Hayden Hidlay, NC State, So.; Lewiston, Pa.Hidlay took the 157-pound weight class at the Hokie Open with a perfect 4-0 mark on the day. His championship effort included three bonus-point wins and as he outscored his opponents by a combined 71-29.  Hilday scored 27 takedowns in the four matches while only yielding one. The second-ranked Hidlay defeated a fellow ranked ACC opponent in the finals, posting a 10-7 win over No. 7 Kennedy Monday of North Carolina. Hidlay had four takedowns in the title bout, compared to one for Monday.  Rest of the story at https://theacc.co/accWOTW

• Four ACC teams remain ranked among the top 25 of this week’s USA Today/NWCA Coaches Poll, led by No. 8 NC State and No. 10 Virginia Tech … North Carolina checks in at No.24 and Duke at No. 25.

• The Wolfpack and Hokies also lead ACC teams in this week’s InterMat rankings … NC State holds the No. 8 spot in the tournament rankings, followed by Virginia Tech at No. 16 and North Carolina at No. 22 … In the InterMat dual rankings, the Hokies top all league teams at No. 12, followed by the Wolfpack at No. 13 and UNC at No. 21.

• This week’ InterMat individual weight class rankings include 25 ACC wrestlers, led by NC State’s No. 2 Hayden Hidlay at 157 … Other ACC student-athletes among the nation’stop 10 include Virginia’s No. 7 Louie Hayes and NC State’s No. 8 Sean Fausz at 125, NC State’s No. 4 Tariq Williams at No. 133, NC State’s No. 6 Justin Oliver and Duke’s No. 8 Mitch Finesilver at 149, UNC’s No. 7 Kennedy Monday at 157,Virginia Tech’s No. 5 David McFadden (174) and Zack Zavatsky (184), UNC’s No. 7 Chip Ness (184) and Virginia Tech’s No. 10 Billy Miller (HW) • Duke’s Finesilver and NC State’s Hidlay are this week’s ACC Co-Wrestlers of the Week … Each swept four matches to claim his weight class at last weekend’s Hokie Open, with Finesilver winning at 149 and Hidlay at 157.
