USA Wrestling sets record with 33 World medals in 2018

BUCHAREST, Romania – On Thursday night, Alexandria Glaude and Korinahe Bullock won bronze medals at the U23 World Championships in women’s freestyle at 68 kg and 76 kg, becoming USA’s 32nd and 33rd World medalists for 2018. With those two medals, the USA has set a new record of World medals in a year with 33, breaking 2017’s record of 32.

So far this year, the USA has eight World gold medals, including Senior champions Adeline Gray at 76 kg in women’s freestyle, Kyle Dake at 79 kg, David Taylor at 86 kg and J’den Cox at 92 kg in men’s freestyle, Junior champion Mekhi Lewis at 74 kg in men’s freestyle, Cadet champions Emily Shilson at 48 kg and Macey Kilty at 69 kg in women’s freestyle and Matthew Ramos at 51 kg in men’s freestyle.

Across all age groups, the USA also boasts nine silver medals (five MFS, two GR, two WFS) and 16 bronze medals (eight MFS, two GR, six WFS).
