No. 8 Pitt-Johnstown Roll to 38-9 Win Over Simon Fraser to Post 3-0 Record at Desert Duals

After wins over No. 25 Colorado-Mesa and Colorado State-Pueblo, the eighth-ranked Pitt-Johnstown wrestlers used a fall by fifth-ranked Joey Alessandro at 141 lbs. and four technical falls to cruise to a 38-9 victory over Simon Fraser University to close out the Las Vegas Desert Duals with a perfect 3-0 record. The Mountain Cats raised their win streak for 15 consecutive matches and improved to 8-0 on the season.
Brendan Howard got it started with a 16-0 technical fall over Pritpaul Johal at 125 lbs., before Simon Fraser took a brief 6-5 lead when Riley Prough pinned Matt Siszka at 1:46.
However, the Mountain Cats went on to win seven of the final eight bouts.
Alessandro pinned Randy McDonald at 3:44 at 141 to give the lead back to Pitt-Johnstown for good and No. 1-ranked Chris Eddins won by forfeit at 149 lbs. to make it 17-6.
Three straight technical falls from Corey Falleroni (157 lbs.), Devin Austin (165 lbs.) and Brock Biddle (174 lbs.) built the lead to 32-6, before Alex Delp won a 9-5 decision over Doug Peyser at 184 lbs. and Mike Geyer defeated Nolan Badovinac, 9-2, at 197 lbs. to increase it to 38-6.
Simon Fraser set the final at 38-9 with a 7-2 decision by fifth-ranked Ciaran Ball over Tyler Oliver at 285 lbs.
With the loss, Simon Fraser fell to 1-3.
Pitt-Johnstown will break for the holidays before traveling to the 2019 NCAA Division II National Dual Meet Tournament on January 4 and 5. The Mountain Cats will wrestle their next home match on January 11 when East Stroudsburg visits the Sports Center for a PSAC dual at 7 p.m.
