NC State’s Hidlay, Virginia’s Mueller recognized
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference has recognized NC State 157-pound sophomore Hayden Hidlay and Virginia 125-pound junior Jack Mueller as conference Co-Wrestlers of the Week after each went unbeaten while turning in impressive performances in the South Beach Duals and regular-season matches. The ACC Wrestler of the Week honor is the second of the season for the Wolfpack’s Hidlay, while Mueller – who saw his first collegiate action of the season on Dec. 20 – was honored for the first time. Hidlay enters this week ranked No. 4 nationally in his weight class by InterMat, while Mueller holds a No. 5 ranking. Hidlay picked up his second top-10 win of the season this past Sunday with a 7-2 decision over No. 8 Ke-Shawn Hayes of Ohio State. The Lewistown, Pennsylvania, native scored both of the takedowns in the match – one in the second period and another in the third. Hidlay’s effort against the Buckeyes came after he went 4-0 at the South Beach Duals at Ft. Lauderdale, outscoring his foes 61-16 and notching three bonus-point wins. The latter efforts included two wins by technical fall and one by major decision. This week’s college wrestler of the week Tyler Berger of Nebraska earns the honor after getting his hand raised in a battle of top-three ranked wrestlers on Sunday during the Huskers dual with Northwestern. Berger entered the match ranked third in the country, just behind the Wildcats Ryan Deakin, who was second and undefeated. Tyler was trailing 1-0 in the third period; however he used a reversal and a pair of takedowns to get the 6-3 win. This win comes after Deakin dominated his way through the Midlands Championships, after picking up a title at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational where he faced little resistance. Berger was third in Las Vegas and was handed his only loss of the season, thus far, in the quarterfinals. Counting his run through the consolations to third-place, Berger is now on a seven-match winning streak where he has downed Deakin, NCAA runner-up Hayden Hidlay (NC State), and seventh-ranked Ke-Shawn Hayes (Ohio State). Tyler is a two-time All-American (third – 2018, fifth – 2017) out of Prineville, Oregon. App State Rolls In SoCon Wrestling Opener
BOONE, N.C. — Fresh off a long-awaited Southern Scuffle medal stand appearance that fulfilled an individual goal, Appalachian State senior wrestler Randall Diabe gave his team an immediate lift in its Southern Conference opener Tuesday.
Diabe began App State’s 39-10 home victory against Gardner-Webb by closing the first period with a pin at 197 pounds, and heavyweight Cary Miller’s first-period pin in the next match preceded a pair of six-point forfeits that gave the Mountaineers (3-5, 1-0) a quick 24-0 advantage. Matt Zovistoski had a pin at 149 pounds, and Alan Clothier (184) ended the dual against the Runnin’ Bulldogs (2-4, 0-1) with a first-period pin.
“I just wanted to go out there and execute and get the team rolling,” said Diabe, who recorded his first pin of his senior season. “You get the heavyweight feeding off your pin, and you get the forfeits. By all that happening, we kept rolling. I was just going out to set the tone.”

Record number of female wrestlers compete at Rollie Lane tournament
Girls’ wrestling is not a sanctioned sport in Idaho, but that didn’t stop the 85 girls from several northwestern states from competing in one of the top high school wrestling tournaments in Nampa Author: Will Hall January 6, 2019
In 2018, four girls competed at the Rollie Lane wrestling tournament, which hosts more than 60 high school teams from across the northwest. One year later, that number grew to 85. Even more impressive? Wrestling is not a sanctioned sport in the state of Idaho.
Not yet, anyway.
Just across the border at Ontario High School in Oregon, where girls’ wrestling is already a sanctioned sport, the Tigers have seen a significant increase in numbers over the past several years.
