PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — History was made on Sunday afternoon in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. when the Midway University wrestling team picked up the first dual victory in program history when they competed in the talent stuffed field at the Smokey Mountain Duals.
The program’s first-ever victory came against Bluefield College (Va.) in Midway’s opening match of what was a busy day for Jake Brumbelow‘s squad. The Eagles (1-3, 0-3 MSC) picked up the 30-25 victory over the Rams for the program’s first victory. Midway’s final three matches were against Mid-South Conference foes – all of which were either ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA Men’s Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 Poll.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, they came up short in their final three matches suffering a 48-3 loss to No. 14 Campbellsville University (Ky.), a 42-6 loss to (RV) Cumberland University (Tenn.), and a 46-3 loss to No. 7 Life University (Ga.).
