NC State fends off Drexel
RALEIGH, N.C. — The No. 8 NC State Wrestling team used four bonus point wins to secure a 25-16 win over visiting Drexel in the final non-conference dual of the year Saturday night in Reynolds Coliseum. The dual started at 125 pounds, and the two teams split a pair of decisions to open the dual. R-Fr. Zurich Storm secured the ride time point and came away with a 4-3 win for the Pack at 125 pounds.
R-Sr. Jamel Morris scored the Pack’s first bonus point win of the day, 11-0 at 141 pounds. After an early takedown, Morris had a two-point, then a four-point near fall to take a commanding 8-0 lead after the first period. No. 7 Justin Oliver used a pair of third period takedowns and scored an 11-5 win at 149 pounds. No. 4 Hayden Hidlay made it three straight wins going into the break, as he posted a 17-0 tech fall win at 157 pounds. The Pack was up 15-3 at intermission.
In the lone matchup of ranked wrestlers, No. 16 Ebed Jarrell of Drexel caught No. 17 Thomas Bullard in a cradle and scored the first period pin. The Dragons pulled to within 15-9. The Pack once again scored a bonus point win, as No. 20 Daniel Bullard used a late four-point near fall in the third period to secure the bonus points in his 14-2 win at 174 pounds.
