14 wrestlers double up as Masters U.S. Open champions in both freestyle and Greco-Roman

By JD Rader, USA Wrestling | April 25, 2019
33 champions, including 14 freestyle champions from yesterday, were crowned Masters Greco-Roman champions at the U.S. Open today. Scott Loescher, Ike Okoli, David Yi, Jordan Humphrey, Rudy James, Carson Gainey, Kevin Pine, Octavius Bellamy, Matthew Robertson, Igor Ilin, Dan Chaid, Bruce Moe, and Jack Schwartz doubled up as both freestyle and Greco-Roman champions.

“I just had a good day,” said Pine, a 2018 Masters World champion. “It’s like a family reunion out here. It’s a great group of guys with camaraderie, but it’s still a competition.” Former Masters World champions Chaid and Bellamy won their Greco-Roman titles without giving up a point. In the premiere match of the day, Stephen Horton was forced to injury default to Domenico Piccinini when he dislocated his shoulder. Horton was winning 5-4 at the time. This match was a rematch of last year’s Masters World Championship gold medal match and a rematch of yesterday’s freestyle final.
