Freshman Trent Hidlay Claims Top Honors at UWW Junior Nationals

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State freshman Trent Hidlay claimed top honors at 86 kg at the UWW Junior Freestyles this weekend in Las Vegas. Hidlay redshirted this past season at NC State, going 24-2 and winning five tournaments while splitting time between 174 and 184 pounds. Starting as the #3 seed, Hidlay advanced to the quarterfinals with a 9-2 win followed by a 7-0 win. In the quarterfinals he downed Abe Assad (8-0), an Iowa commit and ranked #4 nationally at 182 pounds by InterMat. In the semifinals, Hidlay took out the second seeded Gavin Hoffman of Ohio State, a former top-12 recruit who also redshirted this season, 8-1.
In the finals, Hidlay scored a 10-3 win over Zachary Braunagel from Illinois. Hidlay went 5-0 in winning the tournament, outscoring his foes 42-6. With the win, Hidlay advances to the Junior World Team Trials which will be hosted by NC State in Reynolds Coliseum in May.
