Jordan Burroughs denies Isaiah Martinez

After the 2008 Olympic Games, USA Wrestling underwent a change in culture and leadership. The program sought to rebuild itself to best develop American talent and keep that talent in the sport after they reached their goals. In 2009 and 2010, the US senior men’s freestyle team had zero gold medalists. But in 2011, Nebraska’s Jordan Burroughs won gold at 74 kg in his very first international senior freestyle tournament. Since then, Burroughs has collected one Olympic title, four World gold medals and two bronze in his eight appearances as the US representative at 74 kg. Beyond that, Burroughs grew into a crucial leadership role for the program, carrying the sport of wrestling not just with victories on the mat, but by dedicating himself to the craft of motivational prose and spoken word. For nearly a decade, Jordan Burroughs has been the face of that culture change set into motion after 2008. Despite his tagline, “all I see is gold,” the trials and adversity faced by Jordan Burroughs are what make him a living legend. In 2013, he won a World championship with a broken ankle. In 2014, he suffered a severe injury in the first round but wrestled on to win bronze, only losing to the eventual champion Denis Tsargush. Rest of the story at https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2019/6/19/18683641/wrestling-breakdown-jordan-burroughs-isaiah-martinez?mc_cid=68a7792f28&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

Wrestler makes history with help from thriving club first planned on a napkin

TDR Ed. Notes; An interesting story which should encourage those with big plans and desires for wrestling opportunities to grow.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) — Lakiesha Sullivan faced smirking, dismissive boys during her first season as a high school wrestler. And maybe they had reason to take her lightly since she would finish that season with a bagel in the win column and 17 losses. She won’t forget her first ‘w’ the following fall, and the wrestler who ended up with his back on the canvas might not either. “Halfway through the match, his emotions changed. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
MINNEAPOLIS — The Augsburg University men’s wrestling team was honored for its 2019 NCAA Division III national championship by the Minnesota Twins before Tuesday night’s game against the Boston Red Sox at Target Field, with co-head coach Jim Moulsoff throwing out a ceremonial first pitch. Each member of the team, along with co-head coaches Moulsoff and Tony Valek, assistant coaches and two special alumni guests — two-time national champion John Beatty ’91 and former assistant coach Donny Wichmann ’89 — were introduced on the diamond before the fans at Target Field. Moulsoff then threw a strike for his ceremonial first pitch. The Auggies were treated to great seats by the Twins to watch the home team’s 4-3, 17-inning victory over the Red Sox.
