Minnesota Gophers Open Season with 28-9 Victory
MINNEAPOLIS – The Gopher wrestling program earned a 28-9 season opening victory over Cal State Bakersfield on Friday night in Maturi Pavilion. The Gophers won seven of the first ten individual bouts while five Minnesota natives (Patrick McKee, Mitch McKee, Carson Brolsma, Bailee O’Reilly, and Owen Webster) earned victories and three underclassmen (Patrick McKee, Brayton Lee, and Bailee O’Reilly) earned their first dual victories. At 125-pounds Pat McKee opened the Gophers’ season up in exciting fashion with a pin only 54 seconds into the first bout of the 2019-20 season. Wisconsin starts the season 2-0 at AFC Duals
Badgers defeat Fresno State and Army
SAN DIEGO, Calif.– The No. 5 Wisconsin wrestling team began its 2019-20 campaign at America’s Favorite City Dual, taking on Fresno State and Army Friday afternoon. Winning both duals, Wisconsin now boasts a perfect 2-0 record heading into the Battle on the Midway. Wisconsin defeated Fresno State with ease 31-8 to start the season. Army proved to be a tougher battle for the Badgers as UW edged the Black Knights in the final bout of the dual, 16-15. Seth Gross began his Wisconsin career in a way that only he could. The 2018 NCAA champion at 133 pounds pinned Gary Joint of Fresno State in 4 minutes, 9 seconds, claiming his first victory in a Wisconsin singlet. In his next bout, Gross took a major decision from Army’s Lane Peters. The Wrestling era at Davis & Elkins College began on Friday, with the vision turning to reality in an exciting 36-12 win for the Senators, taking part in the 3rd Annual Hams and Slams Event, hosted by Alderson Broaddus University. Head Coach Jerry Boland‘s squad showed poise and attitude well beyond that of a first-year program, taking an early lead through the lower weights, and making it insurmountable with wins in the middle weights. Oklahoma City University rolls to 47-3 win over Texas Wesleyan
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University trounced Texas Wesleyan 47-3 on Thursday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Connor Holman, Easton Rendleman, Kaden Truelove and R.J. Walker provided the Stars with falls. OCU, ranked sixth in NAIA wrestling, improved to 1-0 in duals. Jaxen Gilmore added a 17-0 technical fall for the Stars, while Austin Loza, Montana Moon and Korey Walker all won by major decision. Holman, a sophomore from Choctaw, Okla., pinned Garrett Mowles in 1:36 in the 149-pound match to give OCU a 15-3 advantage. R.J. Walker, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., completed his pin of Don Doyle in 2:50 in the 165-pound contest.
