Corey’s Stories: Olympic redshirts add another layer of intrigue to the college season
A few things happen this time of year on college campuses across the country. Leaves boast in hues of orange, red and yellow glory. Freshmen learn the most expensive, per-ounce items in the world include platinum, diamonds and college textbooks. Wrestlers champ at the bit. The 2019-20 season has arrived. This year, “Olympic redshirt” returns to the college wrestling lexicon, with a collection of collegiate elites sitting out the season to hone their international wrestling skills. “It only benefits the ones who have a structured plan. Wrestling is wrestling, and I truly believe the grind of the folkstyle season helps the United States’ wrestlers in freestyle, and certain freestyle techniques, especially on your feet, make you a better folkstyle wrestler.”
Jesse Thielke took the Olympic redshirt in 2016. The former Wisconsin grappler is a supporter of anyone considering the option. Rest of the story at https://www.trackwrestling.com/PortalPost.jsp?TIM=1572816359057&twSessionId=uwantmfgon&postId=1726357132&mc_cid=b23e8d420d&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
