Campbell Camels finish runner-up, post four champs at Reno T.O.C.

RENO, NEV. – Campbell finished runner-up at the Reno Tournament of Champions behind four individual champs and eight total placers Sunday at the Reno Events Center. Campbell (147 points) finished runner-up behind Wyoming’s 155.5 points. Only the Cowboys had more individual placers than the Camels with nine. Campbell’s four champions were a tournament best. Grand View (75), Oregon State (73.5), Fresno State (73), Utah Valley (69), Cal State Bakersfield (54.5), Colorado Mesa (52.5), Northern Colorado (52.5) and California Baptist (50.5) rounded out the top 10 in the team standings. Earning individual championships on the day were Korbin Meink (125 pounds), Josh Heil (141), Quentin Perez (165) and Jere Heino (heavyweight), while Noah Gonser (133) took runner-up. Andrew Morgan (184) and Mason Smith (149) earned third place finishes, and Austin Kraisser (165) took fifth. Heino took his second individual title of the season, going 5-0 on the day, including a 3-2 decision over Utah Valley’s Chase Trussell in the championship bout. The redshirt senior started the day with a pin over Jase Stokes of Montana-Northern (4:58), and followed with a 12-4 major decision over Western Wyoming’s Landon Brown. Heino also topped Grand View’s Matt Kent and Zach Schrader from California Baptist, both 3-2, in the tournament. Heil remained undefeated on the season in tournament action, topping the podium for the third time in 2019-20. Heil, at 141 pounds, defeated Fresno State’s Kyle Parco (unattached) 7-1 in the championship match. The redshirt junior also notched a pin over Arkansas Little Rock’s Trent Dooley (unattached) (3:28) and a 16-1 tech fall over Adrian Zubin (unattached) of Texas Wesleyan. He also picked up decisions over Fresno State’s Durbin Lloren (6-5), Wyoming’s Chase Zollmann (2-1) and Oregon State’s Conner Noonan (4-0).
