Adrian Chosen to Host the First-Ever Cliff Keen National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo–Adrian College has been selected to host the the first annual Cliff Keen National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships (NCWWC) in Adrian, Mich., on Friday and Saturday, March 6-7, 2020. The joint announcement by USA Wrestling, Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Coalition and Adrian Athletics officials was made on Monday.  All NCAA varsity women’s wrestling programs at the Division I-II-III levels are eligible and welcome to enter. This is a historic event, as it is the first national-level tournament for college women’s wrestling programs from NCAA-affiliated universities only.
Organized by the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Coalition, the NCWWC is an important step in the process of receiving NCAA Emerging Sport Status for women’s wrestling. In June 2019, the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics recommended that all three NCAA divisions add women’s freestyle wrestling as an emerging sport. These NCAA divisions are considering the women’s wrestling bid this year, and official Emerging Sport Status could be achieved as early as August 2020.
The Cliff Keen National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships is not an official NCAA Championship yet, but will be held annually until the sport receives Emerging Sport Status, then qualifies as an official NCAA Championships with 40 NCAA institutions.  College programs which have been invited to the NCWCC at Adrian College include: … Rest of the story and list of college teams at https://adrianbulldogs.com/sports/w-wrestl/2019-20/releases/20191216ksrr4d?mc_cid=e30f8eb0f1&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

Central Catholic wrestling coaches disciplined for allowing a boy to wrestle a girl, diocese says
Central Catholic wrestling coaches were disciplined after allowing a male wrestler to compete against a female in a dual meet last week against Allen, according to Matt Kerr, spokesman for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Allentown. The diocese did not release the names of the coaches or the nature of the discipline, but John Bolich is the head coach, and Dennis Udicious is the assistant coach. Attempts to reach Central Catholic athletic director Dennis Csensits and Bolich were unsuccessful.
Bolich, in his second season as the Vikings’ head coach, sent freshman Josh Lynds out to face freshman Rachelly Montas at 132 pounds in the Dec. 11 dual meet at Allen High School. Lynds pinned Montas in 3 minutes, 27 seconds. Oskaloosa–William Penn Athletics Director Nik Rule is proud to announce the hiring of Tucker Black as the University’s first-ever Head Women’s Wrestling Coach.
Black, a May 2019 graduate of Upper Iowa University with a degree in Agricultural Business, was a two-year starter and team captain for the Peacocks.  A strong scholar-athlete, he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was twice named an Academic All-American. “We are really excited to have Coach Black as our first women’s wrestling coach,” Rule said.  “Through the interview process he showed an authenticity that was very refreshing and something we believe student-athletes looking to compete in the sport will be attracted to. His energy and commitment to the sport is contagious, while he also has a big picture perspective on the most valuable components of the student-athlete experience. 2019 Senior Nationals: Women’s Freestyle Preview
With each passing day, the Olympic Trials get closer and tensions run higher as countless athletes try to turn a lifelong dream into reality. But before one can win the Trials to claim a spot on the Olympic Team, they must first qualify for the Trials. This weekend’s Senior Nationals is one of the best opportunities to do so, with the top five finishers at each weight will earn a berth in next Spring’s Trials. Expect to see some of the best wrestling on the planet from seasoned veterans and newcomers alike in Forth Worth. Below, I dive into each weight a little bit to paint a picture of where things stand heading into the weekend.
50 kg
The clear favorite at this weight is Victoria Anthony, who has twice finished fifth at the World Championships. Vicky can score points in bunches and has an inside trip that’s as good as any you will see at any level of wrestling. She has been one of the more consistent WFS athletes in America and all signs point to her cruising through this weight in Fort Worth. Another entry at this weight possessing World Championships experience is Alyssa Lampe, who has competed scarcely in recent years and is a bit of a wildcard … Rest of the story and outlook at http://www.hmawrestling.com/article/2019-womens-freestyle-senior-nationals-preview/?mc_cid=f2780f6030&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

Reversing old standards: For two Corvallis and Cut Bank wrestlers, fun is just starting
SUPERIOR — For Mariah Wahl and Kiera Davis, the dreams are just beginning. When Wahl, a sophomore at Cut Bank, stepped on the high school mat for the Wolves last year, she became the first female wrestler to compete for the school. Davis, a freshman at Corvallis and the daughter of Blue Devils head coach Matt Davis, is in her first year competing in the sport. “I’m glad that so many people are doing it, especially women, and I’m glad it’s starting to become a deal where we’re starting to get noticed a lot because we used to never get noticed for these things,” Kiera Davis said. “Having a girl step out on to a guy’s mat is a pretty good accomplishment.” Last week the pair competed at the 2019 Bob Kinney Classic, with Wahl finishing fourth in a tough 132-pound bracket and Davis going 1-2 at 103 pounds. Wahl is a standout wrestler on the AAU Team Montana and with the North Montana Wrestling Club, finishing first in the 152 pound Girls Elite folkstyle bracket at the Montana State AAU Folkstyle tournament this past March. 3rd Season Column 16: Mid December Musings; SoCon News; Cue the local angle; and music
“Ah distinctly I remember, It was in the bleak December..” wrote one Edgar Allen Poe in The Raven, one of the worlds great poems. And while the weather across the wrestling world takes its typical chilly turn, a couple of teams are muy caliente come this particular mid month mark. Let’s take a look see, shall we?
Numerous words were written and spoken about the unsteady nature of the team from Mt. Pleasant of late. Several seasons worth of high profile defections and sub par dual meet and tournament results had outsiders thinking and saying Tom Borellis Chippewas had fallen back to the pack. That they were becoming something quite a bit different than the 16X conference champs they had been. That the regression was only partly due to Missouris admission to the MAC and the Tigers immediate ascension to the conference throne. Well, well, welcome, 2019 season, and welcome back, Chippewas! Borellis Boyz have steadied the canoe with a sterling showing at 3 straight tournaments. 11 Top 5 finishes out the gate at the Michigan State Open, 4 first place showings in Boone, NC, at the App State Open, and a team Bronze at the Black Knight Invitational. Then CMU hit the dual meet road to a 2-1 tune through last week. The only setback, a 10 point loss in Anne Arbor to Michigan where CMU won 4 bouts to 6 for the Wolverines. Back to back road wins by double digits over Top 25 foes Lock Haven and Rider show the Chips have some steam to their strokes as they paddle full speed towards the Midlands Tournament at months end.  Rest of the coumn and story at https://morewrestlingplease.wordpress.com/2019/12/16/3rd-season-column-16-mid-december-musings-socon-news-cue-the-local-angle-and-music/?mc_cid=e30f8eb0f1&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

Iowa Wesleyan University Announced a $250,000 Gift for a Wrestling Training Facility
by DeWayne P. Frazier, Ph.D. Vice President for Academic Affairs
Mount Pleasant, Iowa – December 16, 2019 – While hosting wrestling legend Dan Gable on campus, Iowa Wesleyan University announced a $250,000 gift from Mark and Sandy Willis. Mark is a 1970 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan and a 2017 inductee into the IW Tiger Athletics Hall of Fame. This gift will be used toward a building remodel to create a state-of-the-art wrestling training center. The building, located at 205 E. Taft Street, was donated to Iowa Wesleyan in 2007 by the Randy and Karly Beavers Family. It will be named the ‘Willis Wrestling Facility’ and will house a training area, locker rooms, a weight room, and other wrestling specific amenities. It will also house offices and a film room for the wrestling program and other athletic staff. “The impact of this gift from Mark and Sandy is significant for our community, from our athletics program to our enrollment management efforts,” said Iowa Wesleyan President Chris Plunkett. “This facility will also have an immediate and positive impact on our recruiting efforts for future Tigers.” The Mark and Sandy Willis gift was given as a challenge to other alumni and wrestling fans to help grow a solid foundation for the program’s future. Renovation is expected to begin in late spring following the completion of a successful fundraising effort for the new wrestling program. The facility should be completed by the fall of 2020. “Thanks to the incredible support from Mark and Sandy Willis, men’s and women’s Tiger wrestling student-athletes will now enjoy the benefits of a new training facility,” said Derek Zander, director of athletics. “The facility will house all of the day-to-day operations of our teams, coaches, and staff. It will greatly enhance the experience of our student-athletes and will assure potential recruits of our university’s commitment to excellence to this new program.” Dan Gable addressed the crowd to share in his excitement for the launch of the Tigers wrestling programs. “There is no reason girls should not have the same opportunities as boys when it comes to what sports have to offer,” said Coach Gable. “When you look at the sport of wrestling, there are numerous life skills that it teaches.” Last May, Iowa Wesleyan announced the launch of a men’s and women’s wrestling program to begin in fall 2020.  Rest of the story at https://www.thepredicament.com/2019/12/iowa-wesleyan-university-announced-a-250000-gift-for-a-wrestling-training-facility/?mc_cid=d7de0df08e&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

From above the Arctic Circle comes a wrestler who likes to throw some weight around
Spencer Woods is a relative newcomer to the sport he hopes will take him to next year’s Summer Olympics, and when you hear about his first real taste of Greco-Roman wrestling, you might be surprised it wasn’t also his last. It happened several years ago when Woods was a Kotzebue High freshman at a tournament in Las Vegas that offered competition in folkstyle, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Folkstyle is the kind of wrestling Woods grew up with in Shungnak and Kotzebue, the kind contested in Alaska high schools. Greco-Roman is the kind of wrestling where competitors must remain on their feet and battle chest-to-chest, the kind of wrestling where a guy sometimes picks up his opponent and hurls him across the mat. It’s the kind of wrestling, Woods says, that people like to watch.
