Nick Baumler Named NSIC Wrestler of the Week
Upper Iowa’s Nick Baumler earned the Northern Sun Conference Wrestler of the Week honor after going 3-0 and leading the Peacocks to an undefeated run at the Desert Duals. Brothers Cayden and Graham Rooks Look to Fuel Program Turnaround for IU Wrestling

When it came to picking a place to wrestle in college, Graham Rooks never faced a tough decision. Growing up in Columbus, Indiana, just an hour east of IU, Graham saw first hand how talented the state of Indiana was in wrestling. However, IU was a struggling program in the powerhouse Big Ten conference. When former IU wrestler Angel Escobedo took over the reigns of the program, Graham knew IU was starting to build something special. DJ Fehlman, Lock Haven—Senior, Warren, Pa. (Warren High School)
Lock Haven senior DJ Fehlman at 133 lbs., had another perfect week for Lock Haven. The Bald Eagles’ 133-pounder went 2-0 and his win on Dec. 19 vs. Bloomsburg marked the 100th of his college career. The win – a major decision – helped Lock Haven soar past Bloomsburg in a MAC Eastern Division dual. Fehlman majored Bloom’s Josh Mason 13-3. On Dec. 21 at Clarion, Fehlman extended his win streak with a victory over Clarion’s Seth Koleno, 8-4. With the wins last week, Fehlman extended his win streak to 12 straight bouts. The newest member of Lock Haven’s 100-win club hasn’t lost a bout since the second round at the Navy Classic on November 23.

HOFFMAN TABBED MSC WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
COLUMBIA, Ky. – Bryce Hoffman is the Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday. The senior from Louisville, Ky., upset Marian’s (Ind.) Brett Johnson (No. 11 at 165 pounds) in the Blue Raiders dual against Marian. He secured the victory with a pin in the third round. Clemson football player went 199-1 as a wrestler; the guy who beat him still inspires him
CLEMSON — Gage Cervenka knew that failure to prepare was preparing to fail. He honed his precocious approach while winning middle school wrestling matches as a seventh grader in Greenwood, making a name for himself from Columbia to Greenville as an irresistible 6-2, 200-pound force.
So what if the opponent that day early in Cervenka’s freshman year at Emerald High School would rely on a favorite heavyweight wrestling move? Sure, Tre Long loved the “fat man roll” and was good at it.
Cervenka was ready.
“I’m thinking the whole time, ‘I got this,’” said Cervenka, a senior right guard on Clemson’s undefeated defending national championship football team. But the wily Long, a junior from Eastside High School in Taylors, splendidly executed that fat man roll of his. Peter Del Gallo wrapping up strong run at U.Southern Maine
Gardiner native undefeated heading into winter break.
To the surprise of almost no one, Gardiner native Peter Del Gallo has had a successful wrestling career  at the University of Southern Maine.
But not only has Del Gallo, a senior, continued to be one of the best college wrestlers in New England, he’s managed to be among the most elite Division III wrestlers in the nation. And as he wraps up his career, he may have saved his best efforts for last.
Heading into the holiday break, Del Gallo — who wrestles at 125 pounds — is undefeated for the regular season with a 21-0 record. He also recently notched his 100th career victory. This is on the heels of a junior season where Del Gallo was named a Division III All-American, with a third-place finish at the Division III National Championships.

University of Southern Maine’s Peter Del Gallo, of Gardiner, recently scored the 100th win of his career. 
”Last year was another breakout year for him,” USM head coach Mike Morin said. “Going 5-1 at the NCAA tournament, becoming an NCAA All-American, placing third in the country (in his weight class). So far this year, we’ve seen another jump. He’s not only winning, but dominating most of the competition that he’s wrestling. That’s one of the things that we’ve talked about, just continue to improve, continue to get better. It just seems like he’s been doing that year in and year out.” Despite last season’s success, Del Gallo felt there was still improvements to be made in his game. Lehigh downs Duke, Missouri to cap 3-0 showing at South Beach Duals
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – No. 14 Lehigh completed a 3-0 trip to the South Beach Duals with two victories Monday at the Broward County Convention Center. The Mountain Hawks began the day with a dominant 47-4 win over Duke, then broke a 9-9 tie by claiming the final four bouts in a 22-9 defeat of No. 19 Missouri. Six Mountain Hawks posted 2-0 records on the day, with five of the six going 3-0 over the two day event as Lehigh enters the second half of the dual season with a 4-3 mark.
“It’s good to see the hard work paying off,” Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro said. “We’ve done a lot of little things right. Wrestling the full seven minutes. Attacking a lot more. It makes a big difference.”
In the day’s first match against Duke, Lehigh benefitted from a pair of forfeits, but was dominant in the bouts that were contested. Six of Lehigh’s seven non-forfeit wins produced bonus points, including four technical falls and then back-to-back pins by juniors Jake Jakobsen (197) and Jordan Wood (285) to close out the dual. Big Red Wrestling Splits Final Day in South Beach
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Cornell wrestling split a pair of duals in its final day of competition at the South Beach Duals hosted at the Broward County Convention Center. The Big Red defeated #19 Missouri in its first dual of the day, 19-18, before falling to #15 Minnesota later in the afternoon, 31-12.
With the split, Cornell’s season dual record moves to 4-3 with Ivy League duals on the horizon. The Big Red finish the South Beach Duals with a 4-1 record. In its first dual of the day, Cornell mounted a massive comeback against Missouri. Trailing 18-3 heading into the final four weights, the Big Red outscored the Tigers, 16-0, to secure a 19-18 victory. Missouri mounted its 18-3 lead by winning five of the first six weights, with Cornell’s lone win coming via #6 Chas Tucker at 133 pounds. Tucker remained unbeaten on the season with a 6-3 victory over #24 Allan Hart.
Brandon Womack got the comeback started with a 10-8 decision over Jeremiah Kent. Jonathan Loew also picked up a decision, defeating #22 Dylan Wisman, 16-10. Loew nearly scored a tech fall for the Big Red, leading Wisman 15-4 prior to a late surge by the Tiger grappler. At 197 pounds, Ben Darmstadt continued to enjoy his return to the weight, pinning #23 Wyatt Koelling in 1:11. Koelling scored a takedown on Darmstadt, but it was the Big Red sophomore that used some funk to find the reversal and the fall. Gophers Shutout Duke, Dominate Cornell
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — On the final day of the South Beach Duals the Minnesota wrestling program defeated the Duke Blue Devils 53-0 before dispatching the Cornell Big Red 31-12.  The Maroon and Gold got their hand-raised in 18-of-20 individual bouts. On the weekend Minnesota won 28 total individual dual bouts. 
With two more pins on the day Mitch McKee moved into a tie with Jared Lawrence for 12th in Gophers history with 33 career pins. Lawrence was McKee’s club coach at the PINnacle Wrestling School.  The St. Michael native can reach the top-ten with four more in the remainder of his career.  Three Gophers went undefeated on the weekend as led by Gable Steveson who had all bonus point victories on the weekend and also in the season. Mitch McKee and Bailee O’Reilly were the only other two win all four bouts and they each had three bonus point victories. FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — With five individuals winning weight class titles, the Augsburg University men’s wrestling team claimed the championship at the Citrus Invitational, held on Sunday and Monday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Nineteen Auggies competed in the two-day tournament, going 78-26 with 43 bonus-point wins — 28 pins, seven technical falls and nine major decisions. Ranked No. 3 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III dual-meet national rankings and No. 5 in the NWCA tournament rankings, Augsburg won the 14-team tournament with 192.0 points. No. 15/19-ranked Olivet (Mich.) was second with 169.5 points, and No. 7 Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) was third with 149.0. Six of the 14 teams in the field were ranked in either of the two NWCA Division III national rankings.
• No. 2-ranked 133-pounder Victor Gliva (SR, Farmington, Minn./Farmington HS) reached a career milestone in winning his weight class title. Going 5-0 on the weekend with two first-period pins, Gliva is now 103-22 in his career, including a perfect 14-0 record this season. In one of the biggest matchups in the tournament, Gliva scored a 6-1 win over Levi Englman of Ferrum (Va.), the top-ranked 133-pounder nationally, in the semifinals. He then scored a 3-2 win over Charles Nash of Baldwin-Wallace, a returning Division III All-American, in the title match. Gliva now has six pins and a technical fall among his 14 wins this season.
• Tanner Vassar (SR, Maple Lake, Minn./Maple Lake HS), the No. 3-ranked wrestler at 184 pounds, scored bonus-point wins in all four of his matches, with three pins and a major decision, to win his weight class. Now 13-0 with seven pins, two technical falls and a major decision, Vassar claimed the tournament title with a 15-2, major decision win over Doug Byrne of Baldwin-Wallace.
