Winner-take-all final bout match, heavyweight Deonte Wilson wins 5-2 to clinch dual
RALEIGH, N.C. – Holding a two-point lead heading into the final bout, So. Deonte Wilson got a late takedown and scored a 5-2 decision at heavyweight to give #3 NC State a 19-14 win over #8 North Carolina in a top-10 ACC battle in Reynolds Coliseum. NC State wrestling set a new attendance record of 4,383 fans, who saw the Pack improve to 13-0, and 3-0 in ACC action. The win was the seventh in a row for NC State over UNC, tying the school record for most consecutive wins in the all-time series for the Wolfpack. The dual started at 125 pounds in a battle of redshirt-freshmen. NC State’s Jakob Camacho scored a takedown in the first, and added two more in the third to start the Pack with a 9-4 decision.
UNC evened the dual after two bouts, as Jamie Hernandez got a third period ride out to down Jarrett Trombley 1-0.
#11 R-Jr. Tariq Wilson scored a top-10 win at 141 pounds, as he defeated #10 Zach Sherman 6-0. With a 1-0 lead to start the third, Wilson scored a pair of two-point near falls and got a third period ride out for the win.

NO. 8 UNC DROPS FRIDAY DUAL TO NO. 3 N.C. STATE, 19-14
RALEIGH, N.C. — No. 16 Kennedy Monday led the way a technical fall win at 165 pounds, but No. 8 North Carolina fell just short to No. 3 N.C. State on Friday night, dropping a 19-14 dual at Reynolds Coliseum. After N.C. State opened the dual with a win at 125 pounds, Jaime Hernandez took a tight 1-0 decision over Jarrett Trombley at 133. Hernandez rode Trombley for the full two minutes in the third period, getting the Tar Heels on the board early. At 141 pounds, No. 11 Tariq Wilson won a 6-0 decision over No. 10 Zach Sherman, but No. 3 Austin O’Connor answered right back for Carolina at 149 pounds with a 6-5 decision over the Wolfpack’s Matt Grippi. #10 PITT CRUISES PAST DUKE, 50-0
DURHAM, N.C. – The 10th-ranked University of Pittsburgh wrestling team recorded its second shutout of the season in dominant fashion Saturday morning. The Panthers downed the Duke Blue Devils, 50-0, at Card Gymnasium in the ACC opener. With the win, Pitt improves to 6-2 on the year, while the Blue Devils drop to 0-11. Today’s 50-point win was the first since 2015 when the Panthers defeated Clarion 51-0. Prior to that, Pitt defeated Millersville, 53-0, in 2010. “We did what we were supposed to do today and that’s good,” said head coach Keith Gavin. “Now we have a quick turnaround and need to be ready to compete hard again tomorrow.”
