Wolves pick up second conference win
NEWBERRY- The Newberry wrestling team ( 2-3, 2-1 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas) displayed strong performances up and down the lineup on Thursday evening as they came away with a 23-16 victory over King University (3-6, 2-2). The Wolves kept up the hot streak against the Tornados, picking up their eighth consecutive win against the program. The Tornados had to forfeit two duals, causing them to give up 12 points to the Wolves. Spears picks up his fifth consecutive victory
CHARLOTTE, N.C.– The Newberry Wrestling Team (4-3, 4-1 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas) toppled Queens University on Friday evening by a 39-11 margin. The Wolves defeated the Royals 47-0 in 2019 and kept up the same intensity during tonight’s bout in The Levine Center for Wellness and Recreation. The match took a turn during the 149 pound bout as Damien Penichet initiated Newberry’s dominant run. Wolves take hold of conference standings with 55-0 domination of Mount Olive
Margin of victory is largest against NCAA opponent in school history
NEWBERRY – The Newberry Wolves wrestling team took a big step toward their fifth straight South Atlantic Conference Carolinas championship with a 55-0 thrashing of the visiting Mount Olive Trojans on Senior Night for Damien Penichet and Nick Weldon. The margin of victory is the largest in school history against an NCAA opponent. The Wolves took a quick 6-0 lead as Zachary Valentine won the 125 pound division by forfeit. Wolves finish regular season by pummeling over Lander 33-12
GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Newberry wrestling ended the regular season on fire as they blew past Lander University, 33-12. The Wolves had the opportunity to add the first-year program to their schedule during the 2020 campaign. Newberry displayed an all-around team performance to comfortably takedown the Bearcats, improving their record to 7-3 and 6-1 in conference. Joshua Aquino (125) got the nod for the first bout of the night. Aquino wasted no time getting on the board during his first regular-season dual of the year. Ross was able to quickly escape, earning a point back, but Aquino was consistent with his takedowns. Graham’s victory propels Newberry over the Cobras
NEWBERRY, S.C.– The Scarlett and Grey picked up their fourth consecutive conference victory as the Newberry wrestling team edged Coker, 26-18 Tuesday evening. The Wolves solidified their victory after Keenan Graham put on one of the best performances of the evening during the 184 pound bout.
