From Track Wrestling a rundown of that week
Weekend Rundown: The biggest developments in 20 sentences

1. The clash of college wrestling titans lived up to the billing Friday night when Iowa overcame an Austin DeSanto injury-default defeat and a team-point deduction by winning six bouts to beat Penn State 19-17 in a wildly entertaining dual inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
2. Michael Kemerer was the star of the show for the Hawkeyes and turned the tide in Iowa’s favor with a scintillating 11-6 toppling of Mark Hall that came on the heels of a knockdown, drag-out, throw-or-be-thrown battle between Vincenzo Joseph and Alex Marinelli that tipped in 3. Joseph’s favor after a six-point second-period toss.  …. rest of the story at https://www.trackwrestling.com/PortalPost.jsp?TIM=1580765572398&twSessionId=fvnqkuowhg&postId=320505135&mc_cid=7d7b97b6b4&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

3rd Season, Column 23; Iowants it ALL; SoCon News; and Random ramblings from Coast to Coast
Darth Vader has returned from the dead, folks and he’s rocking the Black and Gold. The Iowa Hawkeyes have awakened from a decade long slumber and are taking dead aim and no prisoners this season at what could become their 24th National Championship. The 2019-2020 Hawkeyes may yet stumble on their way to the top of the team podium in Minneapolis in March, but missteps by this squad are unlikely. Every single starter is ranked in the Top 10. They shut out not 1, not 2, but 3 teams this year and nearly broke the 200 point barrier in winning the Midlands tournament mid-season. And then there was that small matter of the match against Penn State the last day of January. Tom and Terry Brands team made it a night to remember for their extended family as the #1 Hawkeyes upended the 4x defending National champion Nittany Lions 19-17 in front of a crowd of nearly 15,000. Heroes and heartbreak were front and center for the home standing Hawkeyes as Iowa won 6 matches to Penn States 4 while losing 133LB chainsaw Austin Desanto. The #2 ranked Hawkeye went down twice in the 1st period and injury defaulted to Roman Bravo-Young, whom Desanto was unbeaten against in college competition. Analysis in every media format is everywhere about this match, from here the opinion is the match was much ado about….not that much. AMAZING wrestling that changed nothing. Iowa is still #1, Penn State is still #2, and they’re way in front of everyone else this year.  …. rest of the column at https://morewrestlingplease.wordpress.com/2020/02/04/3rd-season-column-23-iowants-it-all-socon-news-and-random-ramblings-from-coast-to-coast/?mc_cid=7d7b97b6b4&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

Cadets make history at first girls state wrestling tourney
YORK — The Nebraska Wrestling Coaches Association fielded the first-ever girls state wrestling championships here Saturday, and the West Point-Beemer Cadet wrestling squad decided if they were going to keep score, the Cadets may as well win the thing. And that’s exactly what the team and longtime wrestling coach Ray Maxwell did in historic fashion. West Point-Beemer easily outdistanced runner-up Schuyler 190-101 on its way to the schools’ first-ever state hardware and the first state title in Nebraska for girls wrestling. “We knew we had a shot at winning this,” Maxwell said. “But being it was the first, you just don’t know what to expect. We are all so proud of what these girls accomplished.” Although it was a monumental day for the Cadets, it was also a monumental day for girls athletics in the state of Nebraska, according Ron Higdon, assistant director of the Nebraska School Activities Association. Higdon and NSAA executive director Jay Bellar were both in attendance at the first-ever meet. “This is just such a great opportunity for our female athletes throughout the entire state,” Higdon said. “In some of our smaller schools, all we offer during the winter season is basketball for the girls. Some of the bigger schools have swimming and diving, but basketball is it for a great many of other schools.” Higdon liked what he saw here in York. …. rest of the story at https://norfolkdailynews.com/sports/cadets-make-history-at-first-girls-state-wrestling-tourney/article_53bed89a-469d-11ea-86eb-d367cade650d.html?mc_cid=7d7b97b6b4&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
