EVERYONE MEDALS: US Team Leaves Ottawa On A High Note
After qualifying their weight categories for the 2020 Olympics earlier in the day, four US athletes still had gold medal matches ahead of them, and two more were called upon to fight for bronze. In the end, only one of those aforementioned taskmasters won a gold medal (via forfeit no less), but three silvers and two bronze is always an indicator of success at any international tournament. The medal round of the 2020 Pan-Am Olympic Qualifier began at 5:00pm (EST) and aired live in the US on Trackwrestling. …. story at http://www.fivepointmove.com/usa-greco/pan-am-qualifier-final-results/?mc_cid=dd3ca5e7e5&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

‘MAGIC MAN’ RETURNS: DAVID TAYLOR QUALIFIES USA FOR TOKYO 2020 AFTER NEARLY A YEAR OUT
He hasn’t fought since May 2019 but David Taylor brought the magic back to the mat at the 2020 Pan-Am Olympic Qualifiers
David Taylor hadn’t wrestled since 5 May 2019 when he stepped on the mat to face Venezuela’s Pedro Ceballos on Sunday 15 March 2020. It was all eyes on Taylor, the 2018 world champ, back from a potentially career-ending torn ligament (ACL) as he walked out at the Shaw Center in Ottowa, Canada, for his 86kg men’s freestyle contest. Was he fit? Had the injury taken its toll? Was the magic gone? A pin and a 10-0 victory over the Venezuelan – Lima 2019 Pan Am silver medallist and 5th at Rio 2016 – was the perfect response. …. rest of story at https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/stories/news/detail/wrestling-david-taylor–usa-tokyo-2020-qualification/?mc_cid=f6e5f3ba8d&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
GRECO NEWS
Monday Roundup: Ottawa Wrapped; Updated Int’l Medal Count; Style Guide Change
The United States Greco-Roman Seniors who competed in Ottawa were responsible for one of the program’s most memorable weeks in quite some time. It started with the Pan-American Championships, which saw the US run up 200 team points behind five golds, three silvers, and one bronze. Six days after the Pan Am Championships, four American athletes made the finals of the accompanying Olympic Qualifier, thereby securing their respective weight classes on behalf of the US in advance of the 2020 Olympics. And, the US capped that particular tournament with all six wrestlers earning medals, further adding to a freight train march of success that brought with it reason for celebration, as well as reason to exhale. …. story at http://www.fivepointmove.com/greco-wrestling-news/ottawa-wrapped-qualifier/?mc_cid=f6e5f3ba8d&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
