1 } – Westside’s Lou Miloni ‘coached with a passion’ and touched lives on and off wrestling mat (Nebraska)
Lou Miloni’s legacy to Omaha Westside wrestling is found on the school’s mat. Right there in the center circle, his face is drawn in caricature. Miloni couldn’t attend the mat’s unveiling last year at the state tournament at CHI Health Center, as he was at his home in Arizona with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. But he came back last June when the school unveiled a commemorative plaque and announced an annual endowed scholarship in his name. The 36-year teacher and coach at Westside died May 15 in Chandler, Arizona. He was 79. A memorial service will be held in Omaha at a later time, daughter Tiffany Small said. “Sports were always important to him,” she said. “The family has been touched by the former students who have reached out or visited my dad during his sickness. It meant so much to him.” … rest of story … https://www.omaha.com/sports/high-school/westsides-lou-miloni-coached-with-a-passion-and-touched-lives-on-and-off-wrestling-mat/article_d193cc11-4568-54d2-a189-db360bcdc4f2.html?mc_cid=97df5e5b46&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

High School wrestling matches are poised to have a different look next season. While there are still steps to be taken before a shift from 14 weight classes to 13 is officially put in place, the PIAA’s board of directors moved in that direction last Wednesday when it passed on a first reading basis the wrestling steering committee’s proposal that would transform the four weight classes between 170-220 into three – 172, 189 and 215. Area coaches weighed in on the move, meant to decrease the number of forfeits seen in matches. “I understand the reason behind PIAA reducing the amount of weight classes,” said Jim Thorpe head coach Shawn Albert. “This does eliminate the amount of wrestlers needed to complete a full lineup. … rest of story … https://www.tnonline.com/20200526/area-wrestling-coaches-give-their-views-on-piaa-proposal-to-cut-a-weight-cl/?mc_cid=a56cef7301&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
6 } – Whether it’s the NFL or wrestling, recruiting is the key
Preparation for a wrestling meet doesn’t start in the locker room or the wrestling room — it starts in the living room. Recruiting battles are where the competition really begins. Coaching philosophy and technical aspects of wrestling get talked about often, but recruiting usually gets overlooked. Recruiting is an essential part of winning. One person — good or bad — can change the entire dynamic of a team. That means getting the right recruits is fundamental to future success. So what goes into recruiting? Each coach has to sell himself and his program to an athlete. There is an art to getting a high school wrestler — and his parents — to commit to a college. … rest of story … https://www.trackwrestling.com/PortalPost.jsp?TIM=1590641077660&twSessionId=oyfwdiszrh&postId=782210135&mc_cid=2313436fb3&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
