2 } – MASTERING MOTIVATION – A GUIDE FOR ATHLETES AND PERFORMERS SOCIAL DISTANCING
Let’s face it… there is very little that is “normal” about the phase of life we are now finding ourselves in. Purposefully secluding ourselves, spending the vast majority of our time in our homes, and likely missing out on a lot of the interactions and workouts we would normally be experiencing is just odd! With this peculiar circumstance, you might find that you are motivated to make the best of things with what you have or might feel charged up to defeat this, like it’s one of the performance obstacles that you have faced before. But for others… you may not. You might feel out of sorts. You might feel isolated and cramped. Or, you might feel like you are losing the progress you have worked towards in your training and work. With all of that, you might feel the motivation leaving you day by day.
Motivation is a term we all know. We know what it feels like to have it, or not have it. And, we all rely on it on a day to day basis to accomplish what we need and want to in this life. But, what happens when it goes away and we are left grasping at air to try and find it again? Here, I want to share with you aspects of your life and experience, as well as some easy strategies for you to master motivation and regain the drive you hope to live with – even while social distancing.

3 } – Wisconsin Olympic hopeful benefits from delayed Tokyo Games
Alisha Howk’s Olympic wrestling dreams are on hold for now, but she’s making the best of training during COVID-19.
MINNEAPOLIS — The 2021 Olympics are scheduled to start one year from today. Athletes are slowly getting back to full training regiments after all organized training abruptly came to a halt in mid-March. One of the athletes who was gearing up for Olympic trials was wrestler Alisha Howk. Competition to qualify for the women’s wrestling team is fierce, so Kris caught up with Alisha, who trains in Wisconsin, to see how one of the youngest Olympic wrestling hopefuls is balancing life and training during COVID-19.
Kris: How are your feelings, just generally with the Olympics being pushed out a year?
Alisha: Actually, I’m really not in the same boat as everyone else…I was very grateful for it just because I’m 20 and pretty young for the wrestling Olympic scene, and so having that extra year has actually helped me a lot. So taking these last couple months, just training in general, it’s been going really well. So I feel like I’ve already jumped levels. … rest of story at https://www.kare11.com/article/sports/olympics/olympic-hopeful-alisha-howk-wrestler-summer-games/89-34536f88-0a05-41fb-8df2-880738350842?mc_cid=a3e4678353&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
4 } – FORMER REFUGEE GRACE BULLEN IS FIGHTING FOR FEMALE EMPOWERMENT IN AFRICA
The South Sudanese-born Youth Olympic Games wrestling champion for Norway has fought all her life for recognition, and is now intent on waving two flags at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, while improving the lives of those back home.
When Norway’s Grace Bullen takes to the wrestling mat, she is fighting for something much bigger than herself. She grapples in the colours of her adopted home, but she also wrestles for the country of her heritage, South Sudan.
She wrestles to show refugees that they can also improve their lives, and she fights for female empowerment back in Africa.
“I want people to see that it doesn’t really matter where you come from, or what the destination has to be. Just do what you want to do, and if you really work hard for it and really want it, it’s really possible,” the 23-year-old told United World Wrestling.
“The fact that I represent two nations means I have a bigger platform and can reach out to even more people.” … rest of story at https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/stories/features/detail/refugee-grace-bullen-wrestling-female-empowerment/?mc_cid=097a633e42&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

6 } – IMO: Women’s stories are creating space for connection
In My Opinion (IMO) is Transition Wrestling’s opinion column.
Women throughout the wrestling community are sharing pieces of their stories. In a single week, the #HowSheWrestles campaign has flooded, and is moving beyond, the wrestling space. The videos being shared are powerful, but also a bit chilling.
I use the word chilling because women are speaking aloud about things that seem a bit taboo in the male dominated, although decreasingly so, sport of wrestling–emotions, feelings and the general human experience with acceptance and community. But why does it feel so thrilling to actually hear these women speak? I think a big part of the thrill of women’s voices is that women don’t often raise them, … rest of story at https://www.transitionwrestling.com/imo-womens-stories-are-creating-space-for-connection/?mc_cid=1419bf9910&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

On Saturday, 2016 Olympian Haley Augello announced her retirement from competition via Instagram.
With a photo from the Olympic Games as the graphic, Augello posted this:
After much thought & consideration, I officially would like to announce my retirement from Women’s Wrestling. Wrestling is a sport that can give & take so much. I will never regret the years of sacrifices I’ve made because it has brought me to 27 countries, to World Championships, to the 2016 Olympics, and, most importantly, it has brought me to lifelong friendships. Although I am putting out the flame of my competitive days, my fire will NEVER stop burning in the pursuit of athlete equality & safety. When one door closes, another opens. Big things coming soon. Thank you Terry Steiner, @chunk48, @funky_gold_medina, @boomonday, and @sunkistkids for the unconditional love & support. And a special thank you to my family & @beckaleathers for being my solstice in a sport that can be so mentally & physically grueling. I love you all & am so thankful for those who have followed my journey.
Augello has been one of the nation’s best women athletes, going back to her days in high school in Lockport, Ill. In her first full year of competitive freestyle, Auguello won the UWW Cadet Nationals in 2011 and went on to claim a 2011 Cadet World title at 46 kg in Szombathely, Hungary.
On the Senior level, she was No. 1 in the USA for two straight years. 9} – .Dominique Parrish: My Wrestling Hero
Today’s installment of My Wrestling Hero features Dominique Parrish. The three-time U23 World Team member and U.S. Open champion shares her thoughts on her wrestling hero: Ken Kannegaard.
These are Parrish’s words on her wrestling hero:
“My wrestling hero is my coach, Ken Kannegaard. He passed away a couple years ago from cancer. He was around when I was in middle school and he helped coach me with my dad. He was always about women’s wrestling. He started it at our high school. We had a great program by the time I was in it so I didn’t have to go through all the shenanigans that happen when a girl tries to wrestle in a male-dominated sport. I had some stuff, but he stuck up for me. He was a great coach. He loved wrestling. He loved women’s wrestling. .. rest of story at https://www.trackwrestling.com/PortalPost.jsp?TIM=1595820040477&twSessionId=thjstxpaju&postId=787220135&mc_cid=1419bf9910&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
