1 } – Wrestling returns under the big top in Atlantic City
ATLANTIC CITY – Dave Dean fondly remembers putting together a wrestling meet in a cattle barn in rural Oklahoma. “That had a whole set of interesting circumstances,” he said through his mask. Tougher than holding a huge wrestling tournament outdoors in the summer heat in the middle of a pandemic? “Well, this has other interesting circumstances,” said Dean, who confessed he was smiling underneath his face covering. Dean is the tournament director for the NUWAY Summer Nationals, which successfully brought wrestling back to New Jersey when grapplers as young as 7 years old through high schoolers, hit the mat this week. The tournament runs through Saturday afternoon. … rest of story at https://www.courierpostonline.com/story/sports/2020/08/18/wrestling-returns-under-big-top-atlantic-city/3394566001/?mc_cid=503739b0f8&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
2 } – .Big Game Wrestling Club will leave no wrestler behind
Dylan Carew loves to show off the Big Game Wrestling facility in North Liberty, Iowa. A grand tour takes about an hour — maybe two hours if you ask the right questions. Carew, the founder and head coach of the club, will tell you about the immaculate lobby and the sauna and the locker rooms and the wrestling room and the weight room and the exercise equipment and all of the people who made his dream a reality. He loves to heap praise on those around him.
The predominant colors of the facility are orange, black, and white, which are in bold contrast to the black and gold colors of the University of Iowa. Those colors may seem odd since Carew attended Iowa City West High School and wrestled for the Hawkeyes under Tom Brands from 2009-14. Orange and black represents Iowa’s arch-rival Oklahoma State. They aren’t supposed to represent a club located a few miles north of Iowa City, right? Not if you are Dylan Carew, and not if you want your club to be different from any other wrestling club in the world. The colors were borrowed from Big Game Treestands. Carew knows the owner and he asked for permission to use the name for his club and to use the colors. The owner gave an enthusiastic yes. “My whole goal with the club has always been to improve upon the things I’ve been taught … rest of story at https://www.trackwrestling.com/PortalPost.jsp?TIM=1596921505679&twSessionId=mbkbtjjhhn&postId=788194135&mc_cid=040ae84fd3&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

The State of Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) has suspended all High School Sports in the State of Delaware until January of 2021. 4 } – USA GRECO US Seniors Are Heading To Utah Valley For Next Training Camp
The Utah Valley Regional Training Center will serve as the next site for a Greco-Roman camp catered towards US Seniors as the summer moves into its final month. Since June, three such training opportunities have been made available. First was the hybrid co-op mission hosted by Eric Guerrero at the Oklahoma RTC in Broken Arrow; a few weeks later, Ivan Ivanov brought a group of Seniors into his Suples Wrestling Club in Boise, Idaho for an abbreviated stay; and last month, MWC in Nebraska welcomed the largest contingent yet with nearly 20 wrestlers showing up, including eight current National Team members.
Utah Valley was to act as a camp location immediately following Suples in Boise but wound up becoming scrapped due to low turnout. Timing was the culprit. Suples was the first “all-Greco” camp of the summer and only one attendee, G’Angelo Hancock (97 kg, Sunkist, world #8), had participated in the Oklahoma RTC gathering. … rest of story at http://www.fivepointmove.com/usa-greco/us-seniors-train-utah-valley/?mc_cid=adab565cde&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

7 } – BAUMGARTNER RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT DURING HISTORIC VIRTUAL USA WRESTLING BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING ON AUGUST 15

8 } – Military Wrestlers Face Challenging Start To New Season
Wrestling was brought to its knees once the coronavirus pandemic firmly took hold, both in the United States and around the world. This has all been discussed much too much by now. Yet, there is still no avoiding the topic. Not enough has changed.
Some are tricked into pretending otherwise. After all, we have spotted signs of life. Several youth tournaments have gone off without a hitch, a few European programs have resumed full-scale practices, and a pair of American Senior cards were successfully broadcast with one (or two) more on the way semi-soon.
It is not all rosy of course. The upcoming collegiate wrestling season will not begin until early next year, assuming it even does. The same will likely become confirmed for high schoolers, certainly in most states. All of this news has either been announced or will start making the rounds eventually. And when it does, no one will act surprised. For such a supposed fluid situation, expectations remain low. Even the optimists out there who insist a corner has been turned with regards to the pandemic have stopped raising their collective eyebrows. They think they know what’s coming. Chances are, they’re correct. Equally disconcerting are voices on the other side. More than a handful of those involved in wrestling, particularly in the US, appear to be rooting against the sport’s return to normalcy. … rest of story at http://www.fivepointmove.com/usa-greco/military-wrestlers-new-season/?mc_cid=38a5eef6bd&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
9} – .CONGRESSIONAL WRESTLING CAUCUS REQUESTS PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM GO TO DAN GABLE
Editor’s Note: The Congressional Wrestling Caucus is a group of members of Congress who were wrestlers and/or have a strong interest and involvement in the sport. This group meets together, and has been part of a number of Washington, D.C.-based wrestling activities. This letter was sent to President Trump recently:
Dear President Trump,
On behalf of the Congressional Wrestling Caucus, I request your consideration to recognize Mr. Dan Gable with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, our nation’s highest honor. As you know, Coach Gable is widely considered the greatest wrestler of all time. Following a 181-1 high school and collegiate career at Iowa State, he won the 1972 Olympic Gold Medal without surrendering a single point. He defined greatness as an athlete and coach and continues to do so today as an ambassador for the sport of wrestling.
To date, no wrestler has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Your selection of Coach Gable would cement his stature and cap his career in a way no one else in the sport has previously achieved. Our entire wrestling community, young and old, athlete and fans, would embrace his recognition across our great nation.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the sport of wrestling. This year’s NCAA Division I Championships were canceled days before the event. Many seniors will never compete again in front of their teammates, coaches, families, and friends. Recognizing Coach Gable during this challenging time would embrace his recognition across our great nation. … rest of story at https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Features/2020/August/20/Request-for-Gable-to-get-Presidential-Medal-of-Freedom?mc_cid=27a5988c78&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

The former Northern Illinois University wrestler also has carved out his own career, much of which started with a small wrestling movie called 7 Minutes and a highlight show called The Wrestling Recap, which was a short-lived “Daily Show” of wrestling back in 2005.
On Episode 614 of Short Time, Oliva talks about his latest project, his ninth book called Harvest Moon, a horror thriller which he’s been raising funds for via kickstarter (bit.ly/jdoliva), the geekery that is comic books, super heroes and professional wrestling as well as the crossover between those topics and wrestling. … rest of story at http://www.mattalkonline.com/podcast/short-time/wrestling-coach-and-author-j-d-oliva-talks-novels-comics-fargo-and-even-pro-wrestling/?mc_cid=3e7422f8f7&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
