1 } – VIKINGS DOMINATE AT HOME
Des Moines, IA – No. 1 Grand View men’s wrestling hosted their first tournament of the season today, November 7, in the Johnson Wellness Center. The Vikings hosted Benedictine College, Doane University, Oklahoma Wesleyan, and William Penn. Team one for Grand View outscored their opponents 146-13 over the course of the three duals. Team two outscored their opponents 115-0 during their two duals. Grand View collected 32 pins throughout the day dominating the mat over their opponents.

2 } – GLVC announces 2020-21 wrestling schedule
SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Great Lakes Valley Conference approved the 2020-21 wrestling schedule, and Drury University will open its fifth season of intercollegiate competition on Jan. 10. The schedule was adjusted due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in the start of the season pushed back more than two months, and the slate moved to 11 duals eliminating regular season tournaments.
The Panthers will open the year on Jan. 10 with GLVC duals at Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Drury will take on Indianapolis, then Ouachita Baptist later that afternoon.
Drury’s first home event of the year will be Jan. 23 when they host a series of GLVC duals at the O’Reilly Family Event Center. Lindenwood will face Ouachita Baptist to start the event at 10 am, and then the Panthers will take on Lindenwood at 11:30 am. 3 } – 2020-2021 NAIA Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 Poll – No. 1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In the first poll of 2020 season, wrestling powerhouse Grand View University (Iowa) claimed the No. 1 spot to begin the season in first poll released Friday. Life (Ga.), Reinhardt (Ga.), Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and Southeastern (Fla.) rounded out the top five.
Poll Methodology
- The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the eight conferences.
- Two days prior to the national poll, each qualifying group rater submits the top six individuals from each weight class in his conference into the system. Only wrestlers listed on a conference ballot are considered for the national ballot.
- The top 20 individuals in each weight class is based on how each voter ranks the best individuals. An individual receives 20 points for each first place vote, 19 for second place and so on through the list. 4 } – DIII ACTION THIS WEEKEND
A pair of events with DIII wrestlers are set to go off this weekend. First the UWW Junior/U23 National Championships take place in Omaha, Nebraska, from Friday to Sunday. Freestyle and Greco-Roman will be contested in each age group, and a good number of DIII wrestlers are already registered.

The Adrian Invitational is Saturday as well. The five team event features the host Bulldogs along with Trine and three NAIA schools. This may be the only intercollegiate competition at a DIII school in the fall semester. 5 } – Tigers fall in season-opening dual
MITCHELL, S.D. – In a battle of nationally recognized teams, the Concordia Bulldogs defeated the Dakota Wesleyan University wrestling team, 34-6 in the opening dual of the season at the DWU/Avera Sports and Wellness Complex on Friday. In the opening match of the night, Cole Halouska (Worthing, S.D.) fell by a 7-3 decision. Freshman Hunter Planansky (Hayden, Colo.) helped DWU bounce back after a tightly contested match. He picked up the victory in a 2-0 decision.
Carter Max (Mitchell, S.D.) battled in the 197-pound weight class and lost by fall in 5:36. 6 } – Mavericks Announce 2020-21 Wrestling Schedule
Mankato, Minn. – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has announced its basketball and wrestling schedules for the 2020-21 academic year. The schedules were approved by the NSIC Board of Directors with the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, and staff as the top priority. Both the basketball and wrestling schedules will begin in January and schools will follow NCAA Sports Science Institute (SSI) guidelines for competition. To mitigate COVID-19 exposure, schools will only compete against one opponent each week of the season. The wrestling schedule will be six duals starting the second week of January and concluding the second week of February. Schools will compete against six of its nine conference opponents. 7 } – Men’s Wrestling Captures Own Adrian Bulldogs Invitational Crown with Three Champions
ADRIAN, Mich.–The 19th-ranked Adrian College men’s wrestling team had a successful 2020-21 season debut on Saturday with three first-place finishes as the Bulldogs also won the Adrian Bulldogs Invitational at the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center field house.
Bolstered by individual titles from a junior trio in Zach Altman (174 pounds), Derick Duvall (165) and Isaiah Espinoza (285), Adrian scored 159 points to outdistance Thomas More (134.5), Indiana Tech (121.5) and Trine (115.5) for the team crown–the first championship in the four-year history of the event for the host school.

8 } – No. 2 Men’s Wrestling Dominates Montreat in Home Opener
MARIETTA, Ga. —- The No. 2 nationally ranked Life University men’s wrestling team won the 2020 home opener 49 to -1 over Montreat College Wednesday night. Life U finished the match with a pair of forfeits at 125 lbs. and 285 lbs. as well as four wins via pin fall and a major decision for the clean sweep. A mat violation cost the Cavaliers a team point for the negative result. In the first official match, Gavin Christ earned the win via pin fall in 2:41 for an early 12-0 Life U lead. Jacob Ruiz (141 lbs.) answered with a 13-5 major decision, as Yarhoski Aldiva took a 10-3 decision at 149 lbs. 9} – BRAVES DEFEAT THE OKLAHOMA WESLEYAN EAGLES, 42-12
OTTAWA, Kan. – The Ottawa University men’s wrestling team tripped up the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles on Thursday evening in Wilson Field House, 42-12. The dual started off with a victory by Tyler Johnson, Johnson won by forfeit in the 125lb weight division. Wade Landrum was defeated by a fall by Kolby Encinas (OKWU) in the 133lb weight division. In the 141lb weight class, Parker Wright won by fall over Terrell Banuelos (OKWU). Gabriel McDuffie won by fall in the 157lb weight class over Chad Sakamoto (OKWU). Kolby Droegemeier defeated Jaden Walden (OKWU) by a fall in the 165lb weight division. 10 } – JIMMIES RALLY FOR WIN OVER NORTHWESTERN
Ramiro Macias (SR/Delano, Calif.) defeated Skyler Bonestroo 3-2 in ultimate tiebreaker, helping the University of Jamestown men’s wrestling team to a 24-22 dual victory over Northwestern (Iowa) College Friday night at Harold Newman Arena. The Jimmies took a 21-0 lead after the Red Raiders were open at 125 and 149, and Ramon Carillo getting a win at 133 after Manny Jaramillo was forced to forfeit due to injury after the first period. Antonio Ruiz (SR/West Valley, Utah) won a 10-6 decision at 141 and it appeared Jamestown was in control.
