4 } – New wrestling movie ‘The Last Champion’ features Montana connections
GREAT FALLS — On the surface, the new movie The Last Champion feels like it could be set in Great Falls. An Olympic wrestler from a small town? Check. A disgraced former athlete seeking redemption? Check. “It’s a story mainly about redemption and hope and inspiration,” said co-writer and producer Ivy Withrow. “It’s a story about a man who was an Olympic champion and he had a moment in his life where he really fell from grace. And the movie is about his journey to kind of pull himself out of that really dark place that he was.” The main character, John Wright, might as well be an amalgamation of some of the most well-known athletes in Electric City history. But the connections to Great Falls go much deeper than just familiar plot lines.
Start with the cast. Great Falls High School alumnus Olivia Longin makes her screen debut in a speaking role. “I was just a student at the University of Idaho studying theater, film and television, and, through the department, I was hired to be a stand-in … rest of story at https://www.montanasports.com/high-school-sports/wrestling/new-wrestling-movie-the-lash-champion-features-montana-connections?mc_cid=de5a36abdc&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

5 } – Five things you did not know about USA wrestling star David Taylor
Find out how the 2018 world champ got the nickname ‘Magic Man’, and how he overcame his biggest weakness on the mat.
David Taylor is one of the most exciting names in freestyle wrestling right now. After almost a year out of the sport in 2019 with a serious knee injury, the 2018 world champion at 86kg appears to be back to his best. In March, he qualified USA’s place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after a comfortable gold medal-winning performance at the Pan-American Olympic Qualifiers in Canada. Following the COVID 19-enforced lockdown, the two-time NCAA champion’s aggressive style was back on full display in July, when he crushed Myles Martin 11-0 in an exhibition match. Due to the ongoing pandemic, there will be no American athletes at the 2020 Wrestling World Championships in December. But wrestling fans wanting to see Taylor tested against the best may still be in luck. In recent weeks, the Nevada-born grappler has been embroiled … rest of story at https://www.olympicchannel.com/en/stories/features/detail/five-interesting-facts-wrestling-david-taylor/?mc_cid=97ab69a0c8&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

9} – ‘It’s crippling’: COVID-19 pandemic has financially thrashed college athletic departments
The enduring images of college athletics are often ones of triumph and exuberance. Over the past seven months, however, that reliably rosy picture has become more grim. The far-reaching impact of the COVID-19 pandemic financially has ransacked college athletic departments across the country, including those in Western Pennsylvania. With many teams sidelined, seasons postponed or shortened and fans largely prohibited from attending games, schools have been deprived of precious resources — ticket sales, money from guarantee games, a percentage of donations — that allowed them to thrive or, at the very least, function. Previously unforeseen costs, primarily related to virus testing, have emerged. Painful cuts have had to be made. Through it all, universities have been forced to confront short-term concerns and grapple with long-term, existential questions about what kind of wreckage and rebuilding awaits when this is all over, whenever that might be. “I think everything is going to be re-examined,” … rest of story at https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/Pitt/2020/11/29/pitt-panthers-penn-state-nittany-lions-covid19-pandemic-ncaa-duquesne-dukes-robert-morris-colonials/stories/202011080031?mc_cid=9fce5d3dda&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
