1 } – MUSTANGS RESUME 2020-21 SLATE WITH SOUTH DAKOTA SWEEP
RAPID CITY, S.D. – The upper weights trio of senior Jonah Egli (SR/Fort Dodge, Iowa) (Fort Dodge, Iowa), sophomore Kaimana McCreadie (SO/Irvine, Calif.) (Irvine, Calif.), and freshman Kasten Grape (FR/Columbus, Neb.) (Columbus, Neb.) spearheaded a strong midweek performance by Morningside College Wednesday, Jan. 6. Egli, manning the 174-pound weight class, ran his personal win streak to six and personal record to 7-1 with his third and fourth falls of the year. McCreadie, improving to 4-2 at his 184-pound slot, took a major decision and forfeit. Grape, whose impressive first-year campaign at 197 continued to grow in stature, was a winner by technical fall and a forfeit that increased his mark to 9-3. 2 } – Cumberland Downs No. 7 Southeastern in Top-10 action
LEBANON, Tenn.–Carter Cox and Patrick Depiazza each posted decisions in the final two matches, and Cole Smith recorded a major decision to help No. 7 Cumberland to a 19-15 victory over seventh-ranked Southeastern in wrestling action Wednesday afternoon at the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena.
Wrestling action started today at the 133 weight class with Sixteenth-ranked Xavier Williamson of Southeastern pinning Blaine Fussel quickly to put his team on top 6-0. No. 16 Keshawn Laws and No. 7 Anthony Maia followed that with decisions of their own to tie the match back at 6-6. 3 } – Briar Cliff kicks off 2021 with 55-0 win
The Briar Cliff wrestling team put together a dominant night on the mat Wednesday with a 55-0 win over the Midwald Warriors in Fremont, Nebraska. BC used four pins to help themselves to the shutout victory.   
Ben Peters got the matches started for Briar Cliff at 157-lbs. The redshirt junior, ranked third in the GPAC at 157, won by tech fall (16-0) over Antonio Rinn. The Chargers then got three-straight pins from Chris Paulsen (165), Jonathan Sutter (174) and Jake Leicht (184) to push their lead to 23-0.  Paulsen is ranked first in the GPAC and 12th in the NAIA as of the latest poll. He beat Chase Engelhardt in 2:36. Sutter’s win over Jeshua Castillo came in 5:30 and Leicht upset Connor Rinn in 2:33. 4 } – No. 20 Wrestling Cruises Past Visiting Emmanuel
PEMBROKE – The 20th-ranked UNC Pembroke wrestling team registered 19 takedowns, eight near falls and a pair of reversals to key nine individual victories that helped the Braves breeze past visiting Emmanuel, 41-4, on Thursday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court.  The result kept the Black & Gold (2-0) perfect through two dual meets, while also giving the hosts back-to-back victories in the series with Emmanuel (0-3). UNCP has now captured three of the four matchups all-time with the Lions, and Thursday’s result marked the most lopsided win for either team in the series. The hosts got the night started with three-straight wins, including two with bonus points, to build a 12-0 lead, before Dalton Flint helped Emmanuel get on the board with a major decision in the 149-pount bout. 5 } – #1 St. Cloud State opens season in top order with 31-3 victory
The #1 ranked St. Cloud State University wrestling team (1-0, 1-0 NSIC kicked off its 2020-21 season with a solid 31-3 victory at the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D. on Jan. 7. The Huskies only lost one match on the evening to gain improve upon their NCAA DII record of 65 consecutive dual match victories, which includes a winning streak dating back to a 22-17 loss vs. Indianapolis on Jan. 14, 2017. 6 } – SMSU WRESTLING WINS FINAL FOUR BOUTS TO EARN THRILLING SEASON-OPENING WIN AT MSUM
MOORHEAD Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team opened its dual season on Thursday night earning a thrilling come-from-behind victory over No. 25 MSU Moorhead 18-16 at Alex Nemzek Hall.

7 } – No. 10 Mizzou Wrestling Shines in Home-Opening Duals, Coach Smith Earns Win No. 300 as Tigers Head Coach
Tigers roll past No. 21 Central Michigan and (RV) Wyoming Friday
COLUMBIA, Mo. – No. 10 Mizzou Wrestling (5-0, 1-0 MAC) improved to 5-0 on the season after winning its first two home contests of the season. The Tigers defeated No. 21 Central Michigan, 30-6, to start off their Mid-American Conference season at 1-0. Mizzou finished the night with a 29-3 win over (RV) Wyoming. Head Coach Brian Smith put another exclamation point on his historic career at the helm of Mizzou, earning career win No. 300 in his 23 seasons with the Tigers. Mizzou recorded nine wins over ranked opponents, including two victories over top-10 opponents. 8 } – Wolverines Roll at No. 15 Rutgers in Return to Competition Mat

» No. 3 Michigan claimed seven matches, taking six of the first seven bouts and earning three bonus wins, to secure a 26-10 win at No. 15 Rutgers in its season opener.
» Freshman Dylan Ragusin set the tone with a first-period fall against No. 20 Nicolas Aguilar in his collegiate debut at 125 pounds; Cameron Amine also won, 11-5, in his varsity debut at 165 pounds.
» Logan Massa and Mason Parris, both ranked second nationally, earned major decisions at 174 pounds and heavyweight, respectively.

9} – #25 Northern Colorado sweeps tri-meet in Utah
Northern Colorado picked up a pair of wins over Utah Valley and California Baptist Friday

OREM, Utah – The 25th ranked Northern Colorado wrestling team swept a tri-dual against Utah Valley and California Baptist on Friday afternoon to improve to 3-0 on the year. The Bears dominated California Baptist 35-3 before taking down host Utah Valley 19-16. UNC’s second Big 12 win of the year came thanks in part to key wins by extra points. Northern Colorado and Utah Valley split the matches at five apiece, but the Bears’ four wins by major decision to UVU’s one was the difference in the team score. 10 } – UTAH VALLEY TOPS CALIFORNIA BAPTIST 25-16 IN HOME OPENER
OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley University wrestling team won six of the 10 bouts including four by bonus points en route to recording a 25-16 victory over California Baptist on Friday morning at Lockhart Arena.  
The dual meet marked the first of a three duals on the day that the Wolverines are hosting between UVU, CBU and No. 25 Northern Colorado.  Opening up at 125 pounds, two-time NCAA qualifier and ninth-ranked Wolverine Taylor LaMont helped UVU get off to a strong start with an 11-2 major decision over Dilan Ajtun to give the Wolverines a 4-0 advantage. LaMont picked up four takedowns as well as over two-and-a-half minutes of riding time to record the bonus-point win. Redshirt freshman Ty Smith then added to UVU’s lead with a quick first-period fall over CBU’s Brandon Paulson (1:37) to extend Utah Valley’s advantage to 10-0. 11 } – Wrestling Takes Down No. 20 Upper Iowa on the Road
Fayette, Iowa – Ali’i Loyola made his Northern State wrestling debut tonight in dramatic fashion, sealing the match victory for the Wolves in overtime. The 18-15 win for the NSU over No. 20 Upper Iowa is the Wolves first victory over the Peacocks in the NCAA Division II era.

Following an opening loss at 125 pounds, Northern State bounced back with three victories by Ty AlthoffKolton Roth, and Wyatt Turnquist to gain the lead. Althoff and Roth won by decision, while Turnquist came up clutch with a victory by fall. 12 } – Sunday’s Dual against Cleveland State Canceled
The Cleveland State University at University at Buffalo wrestling dual on Sunday, January 10 has been canceled due to issues with the Buffalo wrestling program related to a positive COVID-19 test and subsequent contact tracing. Due to these issues, Cleveland State was unable to receive medical clearance to compete.
