1 } – ‘She’s like my sister’: York-Adams national champion girls’ wrestlers commit to same college
Tiffani Baublitz and Montana DeLawder live about 45 miles and 80 minutes away from each other, and that’s not the only difference between the wrestlers.  Baublitz works at an ice cream shop while DeLawder works on a goat farm.  Baublitz is a middle-weight wrestler while DeLawder competes at the lighter weights.  Baublitz has focused on tournament competitions rather than PIAA ones in high school, while DeLawder has been a four-year varsity wrestler for her school.  Still, there are some similarities.
For starters, they both work for family-run operations
“She always messes with me that I have to scoop goat droppings and she gets to scoop ice cream,” DeLawder said. “We like to goof around with each other a lot.” And of course, there’s the whole wrestling connection … … rest of story at https://www.ydr.com/story/sports/high-school/wrestling/2020/12/18/piaa-wrestling-montana-delawder-and-tiffani-baublitz-commit-king/3928097001/?mc_cid=ed5fd11129&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

2 } – Wrestling star Emily Shilson keeps mom quiet by dominating on the mat
A below-radar phenomenon during the past decade has been the growth in girls’ and women’s wrestling. In 2019-20, Augsburg’s Emily Shilson was the NCAA, WCWA (all colleges), Junior Nationals and USA Wrestling Under-23 champion at 109/110 pounds.

Cousin Cecelia is named in partial tribute to my Irish mother, is the daughter of my sainted Aunt Peggy, and has been a notable church organist and piano teacher for decades in the St. James area. Back in 2000, her youngest son, Dustin, qualified for the state wrestling tournament at Target Center, and I was able to take a seat for his first match on Cecelia’s left, with husband John on her right. … rest of story at https://www.startribune.com/wrestling-star-emily-shilson-keeps-mom-quiet-by-dominating-on-the-mat/573438791/?mc_cid=ed5fd11129&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b&refresh=true

3 } – WINCHESTER, IKEI WIN WOMEN’S FEATURED BOUTS ALONGSIDE FLOWRESTLING 8-MAN 150-POUND CHALLENGE
AUSTIN, Texas – World champion Jacarra Winchester and past Senior Nationals champion Tiare Ikei were winners of a pair of featured women’s freestyle bouts, as part of the FloWrestling 150-pound 8-Man Challenge on Friday night. Winchester, who has been competing at 53 kg for the Olympic year, gave up some size and weight to Final X runner-up Lauren Louive, who is expected at 57 kg this season. However, she was able to secure a variety of takedowns and turns to score a 10-0 first-period technical fall. … rest of story at https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Features/2020/December/18/Winchester-Ikei-win-womens-bouts-at-FloWrestling-event?mc_cid=ed5fd11129&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

4 } – Historic season for Utah’s prep girls wrestling
Even with the challenges associated with COVID-19, it’s been a historic season for high school girls wrestlers from across the state of Utah. You see, this is the first academic year girls wrestling has been sanctioned by the UHSAA. One program that has generated a lot of interest is Mountain Crest, which already has 32 athletes on its roster. Wrestling has always been popular at the Hyrum-based school, but even head coach Janae Liljenquist wasn’t expecting this kind of turnout for a first-year program. “It just came down to getting the girls fired up,” Liljenquist said. “They just needed to be motivated and know that this is was opportunity of a lifetime to be on the first girls wrestling team at Mountain Crest … and so I think that motivated them. A lot of them had never stepped on a mat before. I think originally when (the school) brought me in, I think they had six girls who were interested and we (held) kind of a meet and greet, and I just told them about my background and how excited I am for them. And since then, it just grew from six to like 16, to even more. And even after we did the orange and blue tournament, we had two girls show up (to practice next week) because they saw it and they saw what the girls were doing.” … rest of story at https://www.hjnews.com/sports/school/historic-season-for-utah-s-prep-girls-wrestling-programs/article_e4ff2bce-50cc-5b4f-a676-4cb3c9cbb32d.html?mc_cid=e96ed12e50&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

5 } – Mota-Pettis, Valencia, Page and Bruntil to Wrestle at NLWC No. 4
The December 22nd installment of Nittany Lion Wrestling Club events will feature NLWC wrestlers Jane Valencia and Jennifer Page up against their opponents Xochitl Mota-Pettis and Emma Bruntil.
Xochitl Mota-Pettis vs Jane Valencia
Xochitl Mota-Pettis (Rise Wrestling) made a lot of noise at 57kg this fall. But even just last year there were telltale signs of her progression. In the summer of 2019, Mota-Pettis was the 127-pound Fargo champion. Then in December, she went 4-2 at Senior Nationals where she outwrestled multiple college All-Americans. This October she pinned Alli Ragan, a world silver medalist, in Iowa, and then continued to the finals where she went back and forth with Lauren Louive.  The last time Mota-Pettis was on the mat was in her run to a U23 title over Abby Nette, the No. 3 ranked wrestler on the Senior National Team. … rest of story at https://www.transitionwrestling.com/mota-pettis-valencia-page-and-bruntil-to-wrestle-at-nlwc-no-4/?mc_cid=e96ed12e50&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

GAFFNEY, S.C.
 — In just their second year of competition, the Limestone University women’s wrestling program looks to make an impact on both the regional and national level as they announce a six-date regular season schedule that features some of the bests teams in the region. The Saints kick-off their 2021 campaign with a trip to Bristol, Tenn. to compete in a double-dual with King and Tiffin on January 9. 9} – New Billings Senior girls wrestling coach Mickey Mahlmeister looking to build ‘great foundation’
BILLINGS — Mickey Mahlmeister has been hired as the head girls wrestling coach at Billings Senior, Billings Public Schools activities director Mark Wahl announced on Tuesday. Girls wrestling is in its first season as a Montana High School Association-sanctioned sport, and the Billings Class AA schools — Senior, Skyview and West — have seen higher-than-expected turnout. That prompted School District 2 to recognize the need for a head girls wrestling coach, who was originally slated to coach the girls from all three schools. However, Wahl said that plan changed, and the district will now be seeking separate coaches for all three schools. … rest of story at https://www.montanasports.com/high-school-sports/wrestling/billings-senior-names-mickey-mahlmeister-girls-wrestling-head-coach?mc_cid=3c167aa54c&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

10 } – Girl power: Schmit’s pin powers Bulldogs to dual win
Ella Schmit is considered one of the top girls wrestlers in the country at 106 pounds. Even so, Bettendorf High School wrestling coach Dan Knight had some reservations on how Schmit would fare in a dual on Dec. 17 when he saw Central DeWitt 106-pounder Keaton Kruse come out to the mat. “I’m like, ‘Man, he looks long, big and strong,'” Knight said. It did not faze Schmit. She took Kruse down 33 seconds into the bout, eventually put him on his back and recorded a first-period fall in 1 minute, 29 seconds to help Bettendorf kick off its season with a 50-28 home dual win over Central DeWitt. “It is pretty exciting,” Schmit said. “It definitely is a step up and I’ve got to step up my game to stay at this level. … rest of story at https://qctimes.com/community/bettendorf/girl-power-schmits-pin-powers-bulldogs-to-dual-win/article_b83d37d2-f7f2-55ea-80f9-756b92ed4929.html?mc_cid=6915204714&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

11 } – Women’s College Wrestling Top 25: January 2021 Multi-Division Rankings
This ranking was produced by a team working with AmericanWomensWrestling.com for FloWrestling & AWW. The team includes AWW staff and several coaches representing both NAIA & NCAA programs. What is a “multi-division ranking?” It’s a ranking that combines all divisions of women’s college wrestling—the NAIA, NCAA, NJCAA & NCWA. With the emergence of 86 college programs, along with dozens of clubs, making this Top 25 list is getting harder and harder. There were a lot of very good wrestlers left off the list this round, especially at 109, 123, 130, and 143. Ranking spots 16-25 is the hardest as there’s so many you could make a case for. These multi-division rankings take into account all women’s college national championships—the WCWA, NAIA, NCWA, and the event launched last year for NCAA programs, the National Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Championships. It also takes duals into account when information is available, and this round includes results from the Junior & U23 Nationals held in November. With the pandemic limiting the college competitive schedule, these two USAW events provided great info for college rankings as there were plenty of matchups between ranked women. Many college programs participated in this event as part of their fall college schedule. … rest of story at https://www.americanwomenswrestling.com/news-2/womens-college-wrestling-top-25-january-2021?mc_cid=afb669e366&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

12 } – ITS A NEW YEAR…FINALLY
Thinking About This Time Last Year
Team Wreaper was ready to go all out! With the Olympic Team Trials in April and the Olympic Games in August, we had it all planned. Then life happened. Rather, COVID-19 happened. Collectively for a few months in the spring, everyone’s plans were put on hold. Actually, they were cancelled. Sports, life, and culture across the board was taken away. That was rough to say the least. Especially since there was so much to look forward to in 2020! With last year behind us, 2020 is OFFICIALLY hindsight.  … rest of story at https://www.wreaperwrestling.com/its-a-new-year-finally/?mc_cid=ea644fcb33&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
