From ranked upsets to first period pins, the third week of college wrestling had it all. All seven conferences appeared in action this week, headlined by the No. 1 Iowa Hawkeyes dominating No. 6 Nebraska 31-6 behind the impressive leadership and savviness of 125-pound, two-time NCAA champion Spencer Lee. Top-ranked 141 pounder Jaydin Eierman also made his debut for the Hawkeyes, while No. 1-ranked 197-pounder Noah Adams notched a solid 3-2 ranked win for West Virginia and heavyweight leader Gable Steveson did Gable Steveson things with a tech fall and a fall for the Gophers. Hawkeyes soar past Huskers with big points from Lee, DeSanto, Young and Brands
If you come for Iowa, you get The Bull…and nine of his teammates. Iowa’s 165-pound senior Alex Marinelli, also known as “The Bull,” is just one of five Iowa seniors to notch a win against No. 6 Nebraska on Friday, and it’s this kind of veteran leadership that is expected by Hawkeye fans to carry Iowa to its first team title in over 10 years this March. … rest of story at https://www.ncaa.com/news/wrestling/article/2021-01-18/college-wrestling-key-results-and-takeaways-weekends-duals?mc_cid=0d6ab523a2&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

2 } – PANTHERS RETURN TO FITZGERALD FIELD HOUSE WITH WIN OVER LEHIGH
PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh wrestling team earned a Top-25 victory over Lehigh on Saturday evening, winning 24-9 in the first home match of the season at the Fitzgerald Field House.
The Panthers, ranked No. 13 by the NWCA Coaches Poll this week, took down No. 17-ranked Lehigh decisively in the dual, winning eight out of the 10 matches. In the 65th meeting in Pitt-Lehigh wrestling series history, the 24-9 margin marked Pitt’s largest home victory over Lehigh ever.
Pitt defeated Lehigh for the second straight season, and head coach Keith Gavin was pleased with his team’s success but also pointed out that several individual matches were very close in a dual that the final team score suggested was more one-sided.
“We won a lot of close matches tonight, and I thought we got too conservative at times,” Gavin said. “We can certainly do a better job of scoring when we have a lead. Our goal is to build a mentality of always trying to stay on the attack. It was a solid team win over a Lehigh program that we respect a ton, but I’d like to see us finish matches better and not play it so safe.” … rest of story at https://pittsburghpanthers.com/news/2021/1/9/wrestling-panthers-return-to-fitzgerald-field-house-with-win-over-lehigh.aspx?mc_cid=a7ee94d0b8&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
