1 } – Generous MATPAC gift big win for UMary, Armada and Wrestling
BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary and the Marauders wrestling program earned a big win with a tremendous gift from Bismarck’s MATPAC Wrestling Club. One of the nation’s top youth wrestling clubs, MATPAC generously donated $28,000 to the Marauders Armada and wresting program to provide scholarships for outstanding scholar-athletes to study and compete at the University of Mary.
“We are incredibly honored to receive this gift from MATPAC,” said Marauders Director of Athletics Dale Lennon. “MATPAC is one of the leading wrestling clubs in the country. For their organization to demonstrate this level of support for Marauders wrestling speaks highly of our university and the hard work of head coach Adam Aho, his staff and their scholar-athletes. This donation helps grow our program, while raising the visibility of their sport.”

And UMary Gets First Win Of The Season Over Minot State
BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary wrestling team dominated in the upper weights to win their first match of the year. The Marauders won five of the last six matches to earn a 20-13 non-conference victory at Minot State University.
Jeremy Leintz (125) got things started for the Marauders, taking on Oscar Nellis. Leintz fell to Nellis by a 7-2 decision.
Laken Boese (133) got UMary on the board after he defeated Kelby Armstrong by a 6-3 decision.

2 } – Hilltoppers’ Laya is MEC Wrestler of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – After coming up big in a Top 10 showdown on Saturday afternoon, West Liberty University junior standout Cole Laya has been honored as the Mountain East Conference Wrestler of the Week. The 2-time NCAA Division II All-American from Fairmont, W.Va. was recognized by the conference office on Monday following an impressive afternoon at Saturday’s Davis & Elkins Duals.
All eyes were glued to the mat in Elkins when Laya, ranked No. 7 nationally at 125 pounds, took on No. 3-ranked Nick Daggett of UNC Pembroke. 3 } – Hunter Burnett Named NSIC Wrestler Of The Week
BURNSVILLE, Minn. — One day after defeating the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the country, sophomore Hunter Burnett has been named the NSIC Wrestler of the Week the conference announced Monday afternoon. Ranked No. 9 himself, Burnett took the mat in the 149-pound bout in Sunday’s dual with No. 1 St. Cloud State. Across from him stood the Huskies’ Jake Barzowski, who currently ranks No. 1 in the 157 pound weight class. A quiet first and second period between the two set the stage for a dramatic third period. Burnett logged an early escape to go up 1-0 before a Barzowski takedown. Down 2-1, Burnett escaped and took Barzowski down with just under a minute to go for a 4-2 advantage. 4 } – Fairmont State Program Pauses Team Activities
FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The Fairmont State University wrestling program will pause team activities as a result of COVID-19 protocols, director of athletics Greg Bamberger announced on Friday afternoon.
As a result, the Mountain East Conference has announced the postponement of two upcoming events that the team was slated to participate in. 5 } – NWCA Regular Season Division II Poll Release #1
Manheim, PA – Defending National Champion St. Cloud State remains atop the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division II Coaches Rankings. In the first regular season poll of the year, released by the association Friday, the Huskies amassed 107 points to stay in the number one spot with Nebraska-Kearney (85 points) and Central Oklahoma (75 points) rounding out the Nation’s top three teams.
INDIVIDUAL RANKINGS
Lindenwood remains in the four spot with 72 points, with Gannon breaking into the top five in this edition of the poll. McKendree dropped to the sixth spot while Indianapolis broke into the top ten joining West Liberty in a tie for the seven spot with 41 points. 6 } – Tom Nelson announces retirement after 20+ year career
ST. 7 } – Newberry Wolves Add a Pair of Duals for Friday
NEWBERRY, S.C. — The No. 9 Newberry Wrestling team has added a pair of duals for Friday afternoon, head coach Cy Wainwright announced Thursday.
Newberry will face Liberty University at 3 p.m. Friday before a South Atlantic Conference Carolinas clash against Emmanuel at 4 p.m. Both matches will take place in Franklin Springs, Ga. as part of a triangular. 8 } – Jordan Claims MIAA Honor
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Jan. 19) — Central Oklahoma’s Wyatt Jordan has been named Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
A senior 174-pounder from Collinsville, Jordan had a dominating performance on the mat last week as the No. 3-ranked Bronchos finally opened the 2021 season by overwhelming three opponents. 9} – Eiteljorge named GLVC Wrestler of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS- Greyhound redshirt sophomore Jack Eiteljorge has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Wrestler of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday morning.
Eiteljorge, currently ranked #5 at 165 in the NWCA Division II Coaches Rankings, moved to 4-0 on the young season with a pair of wins Saturday against regional opponents. The Carmel, Ind., native notched his first win of the day 7-6 over Findlay’s Hunter Reed, and followed with a 3-2 decision over #6 Bryan LaVearn of Tiffin. His wins helped the #11 Greyhounds to a pair of wins over #T17 Findlay and #8 Tiffin on the day.

Senior James Wimer was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 19 for his performance in a pair of duals in Indianapolis, Ind. over the weekend.

11 } – DII to permit access to athletics aid, practice to nonqualifiers
Division II adopted legislation permitting schools to provide athletics aid and access to practice to all incoming freshman student-athletes and two-year college transfers regardless of their initial-eligibility status.
Division II delegates adopted this legislative change during Friday’s business session of the virtual 2021 NCAA Convention. The change becomes effective Aug. 1, 2021. 12 } – Bronchos Flatten Emmanuel
EDMOND (Jan. 15) – Wyatt Jordan and Dalton Abney scored opening-minute falls as No. 3-ranked Central Oklahoma demolished Emmanuel 49-0 Friday evening at Hamilton Field House to complete a perfect season-opening day. The Bronchos recorded nine bonus-point wins in the lopsided dual, racking up 24 takedowns and 14 near-falls while outscoring the Lions 108-17 in individual points. UCO gave up just four offensive points in following up Friday afternoon’s 44-0 blasting of Ouachita Baptist.
