7 } – Sunday’s Wrestling Match with Michigan State Postponed
Teams will look to reschedule

And Penn State Wrestling Pauses Team Activities
Saturday’s match against Rutgers postponed
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Jan. 13, 2021 — Penn State wrestling has paused all team-related activities due to positive COVID-19 results among Tier 1 personnel.
Due to the pause, the Nittany Lions’ match at Rutgers scheduled for Saturday has been postponed. The institutions will work with the Big Ten Conference to identify rescheduling options. No determination has been made on how the pause may impact scheduled matches beyond January 16. … rest of story at https://gopsusports.com/news/2021/1/13/penn-state-wrestling-pauses-team-activities.aspx?mc_cid=6b4820f7a2&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
And ‘They’ll always be behind you’ | Even without fans in Rec Hall, Penn State wrestling’s support remains
Head over to the west side of Penn State’s campus and you’ll encounter Rec Hall, a large, albeit relatively unassuming brick building from the outside. Aesthetically, it certainly doesn’t stand out as much as some of Penn State’s newer venues like Pegula Ice Arena or the Bryce Jordan Center, nor is it as large and cavernous as Beaver Stadium. But inside, there’s something about the roughly 7,000-seat venue and simply its essence — which houses the most prolific team in college wrestling over the past decade — that’s hard to describe. … rest of story at https://www.collegian.psu.edu/sports/wrestling/article_fd455c9c-5f77-11eb-a36b-330067896f4b.html?mc_cid=348fe62197&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b
And Anticipating a Debut
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — After watching the abrupt ending to a fragmented 2020 season, wrestling fanatics eagerly look to the approaching 2021 debut for the Penn State Nittany Lions. And while each passing day signifies one step closer to the much-anticipated matchups, redshirt freshman Joe Lee feels prepared – as he knows a thing or two about waiting.  Landing a coveted spot in the 2018 Penn State wrestling recruiting class, Lee was eager to join the elite wave of freshman contenders, as they made a name for themselves under many Penn State greats. But after an extensive three year wait, the 165-pounder is finally ready to expand past the notoriety of being the brother of three-time All-American Nick Lee. … rest of story at https://gopsusports.com/news/2021/1/27/wrestling-anticipating-a-debut.aspx?mc_cid=bf1f14c6db&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

8 } – Making a difference in Little Rock is more than just wrestling
Little Rock hosted its first home event of the year on January 17 at the Jack Stephens Center against Oklahoma State and SIUE. The tri-meet launched the second season of Little Rock wrestling on the mats. Coach Neil Erisman, an Oklahoma State alum, sat down to talk about the progress of the program in the second year of competition, what it’s like to bring in new wrestlers with something tangible to show rather than just a vision, and the investment a coach feels when they lose an athlete who doesn’t want to compete anymore.  Erisman also explains some of the things that aren’t taught, but learned on the job, such as working with mentors from the community, giving back with community outreach as well as his relationships with assistant coaches Javier Maldonado and Chandler Rogers. … rest of story at https://www.mattalkonline.com/podcast/short-time/making-a-difference-in-little-rock-is-more-than-just-wrestling/?mc_cid=5a9932a916&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

9} – UNC wrestler Andrew Alirez right at home in Greeley
Alirez was the number 1 rated prospect in the class of 2019 out of Greeley Central and could have gone practically anywhere in the country, but decided to stay home. “Yeah man I want to represent G-Town, I love this city. You can win here in Greeley, so I figured why would I go leave to one of these bigger schools when I could kind of start something from the bottom out the mud,” Alirez said.
There is no mud on the wrestling mats where the 5-foot-6 sophomore dominates, but there is sweat from the hard work that he’s put in since his childhood wrestling days. “I have my whole family here. My dad, my mom, my family my support system so… I may not have the world around me but you know I got a pretty good team surrounding me,” Alirez said. … rest of story at https://www.9news.com/article/sports/unc-wrestler-andrew-alirez-right-at-home-in-greeley/73-8f549cdd-c808-49c2-bbaa-dbbd8326570c?mc_cid=494039af40&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

11 } – A ’90s West Virginia connection brought wrestler Julian Chlebove to Tempe
ASU wrestling head coach Zeke Jones made a connection years ago that would help bring a current Sun Devil to his team
By Dylan Wilhelm | 01/25/2021 6:56pm
When redshirt wrestling freshman Julian Chlebove committed to ASU after his freshman year in high school, he and his family were very comfortable with the situation he was putting himself in.  Thanks to a connection from the late 1990s West Virginia Mountaineers wrestling team, ASU head coach Zeke Jones knew the Sun Devils were getting not only a great wrestler but a great kid as well. In 1998, when Jones was on the WVU coaching staff, Julian’s father, Whitey Chlebove, became one of the best wrestlers in the country, on his way to earning All-American honors in both 1998 and 1999. Shortly after, Whitey Chlebove joined the WVU coaching staff, deepening his relationship with Jones, and his wife gave birth to a son, Julian. … rest of story at https://www.statepress.com/article/2021/01/spsports-a-west-virginia-connection-brought-julian-chlebove-to-tempe?mc_cid=4ec9be6c16&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b

12 } – NCAA votes to give extra year of eligibility to Division I fall athletes
The NCAA Division I board of directors voted Friday to give all fall sport student-athletes an additional year of eligibility and an additional year to complete it through a blanket waiver. The move eliminates a cloud of uncertainty for athletes in fall sports whose seasons have been postponed or could be disrupted because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, as is still a possibility with college football in six FBS conferences. The extra year of eligibility, which was recommended to the board of directors earlier this week by the NCAA’s Division I Council, was just one of several decisions Friday intended to further protect student-athletes during COVID-19. The board on Friday also determined … rest of story at https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/29712267/ncaa-votes-give-extra-year-eligibility-division-fall-athletes
