NCAA Division II Results (2021) – #4
TDR Editor’s Notes ; A flurry of results in the active NCAA Division II teams. The schools are adjusting their schedules and are utilizing triangular and quadrangular (or Tris & Quads) events in other to increase their opportunities for competition. After the regular seasons are completed by the end of the month the wrestlers will seek qualification for the national tournament in regional events. 1 } – No. 4 Wrestling Rolls to 4-0 with Pair of Wins on Sunday
The No. 4 Lindenwood wrestling team picked up a pair of wins on Sunday, earning a 36-3 victory over Ouachita Baptist, before taking down No. 20 Drury by a final of 36-8 in Springfield, Mo.

The Lions were hot on Sunday, as newcomer Cevion Severado started the day with an 11-6 decision at 125 pounds. Kalen Napier picked up his first victory of the year, as he took down his opponent by a 12-4 major decision in the 141-pound weight class. No. 1 Abner Romero dominated his counterpart in the 174-pound weight class, winning by a 16-1 tech fall. AND No. 4 Wrestling Dominates on Senior Night
The No. 4 Lindenwood wrestling team (6-1, 4-0 GLVC) cruised to a pair of wins on Wednesday night in Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo. The Lions opened the night with a dominating 54-0 win over Kentucky Wesleyan, and then laid down the hammer with an impressive 54-3 win against Central Missouri.

Austin Kegley started off the night with a 6-2 decision, while Isaac Jacquez followed up with a 13-5 major decision. In the 141-pound match, No. 2 Colby Smith registered a pin at the 4:25 mark and the Lions did not look back. 2 } – No. 21 Wrestling Stays Unbeaten With Win Over Queens
PEMBROKE – The 21st-ranked UNC Pembroke wrestling team tacked up a dozen takedowns, four near falls and a pair of forfeits on the way to eight individual victories on the night as the Braves stayed unbeaten with a 38-9 victory over Queens on Tuesday evening at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court. The result marked the 10th-straight win for the Braves (5-0) dating back to last season, and also gave UNCP its most wins to start a season since the 2010-11 campaign. It was the third-straight loss for the Royals (1-3) who fell to 0-4 all-time in the series with their North Carolina rivals.
Anthony Carter needed just 28 seconds to give the hosts an early lead, registering a takedown just 26 seconds into his 125-pound matchup with Alessandro Araujo, and then pinning shoulders to the mat two ticks later. 3 } – Wrestling upends Division II’s Lander, Emmanuel, King in quad meet
BRISTOL, Tenn. — The Averett University wrestling team (ranked No.23 nationally by trackwrestling) put together one of its best wrestling performances in program history on Wednesday. Improving to a perfect 7-0 on the season, following three wins over Division II Lander University (23-13), Emmanuel College (48-9) and host King University (31-16) for the best start in program history.

Senior Sam Braswell (ranked No. 4 nationally by Intermat) rolled to three impressive victories on the afternoon to remain unbeaten on the season. Beginning with a 17-1 tech fall victory over Austin Ross to give Averett an early 5-0 advantage. 4 } – Viking Wrestling Wins Big at SMSU
MARSHALL, Minn. — The Augustana wrestling team moved to 2-2 on the season Thursday night with a convincing 29-12 dual victory over Southwest Minnesota State. The Vikings defeated the Mustangs in seven of the 10 matches. After a forfeit in the 125 pound bout, senior Brandon Carroll wasted no time in evening up the dual score with a pin over his opponent halfway through the second period of the 133 pound match. Tied 6-6, sophomore Jack Huffman took the mat at 141 pounds and delivered a 7-2 victory in which he recorded three takedowns and a riding time point. With Augustana up 9-6, sophomore and No. 9-ranked, Hunter Burnett suited up in the 149 pound bout and delivered a monster performance. 5 } – ThunderWolves fall to No. T-25 Eagles in RMAC opener
PUEBLO, Colo. (Jan. 28, 2021) – The Colorado State University Pueblo wrestling team lost its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and home opener Thursday, as No. T-25 Chadron State College visited Massari Arena and won, 23-16. CSU Pueblo (2-2, 0-1 RMAC) earned five match victories, but only one bonus point win, as the Eagles (3-3, 1-1 RMAC) used two falls and a technical fall to secure the dual win. 6 } – Minot State Wrestling Drops Nail-Biter at UMary
BISMARCK, N.D. – Minot State wrestler Nathan Baca battled until the end against UMary’s Anthony Velazquez (157 lb) in the final match of the dual but the decision (8-7) went the Marauders way 24-20 on Thursday night in Bismarck, N.D. The Beavers at one point trailed 12-0 after UMary started off the dual with back-to-back pins. Braydon Huber defeated Brody Mohr by fall and Max Bruss won by fall over Noah Gallardo to extend the Marauders lead to that marking. Keegan Berry scored early and was able to hold on to a 6-1 decision over Grant Litke. 7 } – No. 19 Wrestling Pummels Central Missouri, 44-11
HAYS, Kan. – The No. 19 Fort Hays State wrestling team cruised to a 13th-straight win over Central Missouri Friday evening (Jan. 29), topping the Mules 44-11 thanks to eight wins and seven bonus-point victories. The Tigers move to 2-6 in dual competition and 1-0 in the MIAA, while UCM dips to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in league action.
Mason Turner, the second-ranked wrestler at 125 pounds, opened the evening with a 16-1 technical fall with a quick escape in the second period. The sophomore totaled three takedowns and a pair of four-point nearfalls in the first period. Colin Cole, Broderick Green and Cole Zebley all won via forfeit to give the Tigers a 23-0 advantage. The dual came down to a sudden victory win for No. 9 A.J. Cooper in the final contest of the afternoon. The Tigers are now 3-6 on the year and 2-0 in MIAA action, while Newman falls to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the league. No. 2 Mason Turner opened the day with a pin just 45 seconds into the 125-pound match before Colin Cole won via forfeit at 133 pounds. 8 } – Royals Impress in Win over Limestone
GAFFNEY, SC – The Queens University of Charlotte men’s wrestling team (2-3; 2-2 SAC/CC) snapped its two match losing streak rallying to a convincing 28-10 win at previously unbeaten Limestone (2-1; 2-1 SAC/CC)
Alessandro Araujo (125 lb) kicked off the afternoon with a win by fall to put the Royals on the scoreboard first. Following a pair of double forfeits, Limestone and Queens swapped majority decisions with Christopher Cohens (157 lb) propelling the Royals to a 10-4 team lead. 9} – Men’s Wrestling Bounces Back With 33-13 Win Over King
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Looking to rebound from their first loss of the season, the Limestone University men’s wrestling team took home the 33-13 win over the Tornado of King University in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday, February 3. Starting at 174 lbs. on the evening, the Blue and Gold got off to a fast start as freshman Garrett Starks (Easley, S.C.) picked up a competitive 3-2 decision at that weight class to give the Saints the early 3-0 lead on the team scoreboard. The Saints never trailed in the match as they continued their domination heading into the 184 lbs. matchup with sophomore Hunter Haven (Kershaw, S.C.) taking home a 13-7 decision to extend Limestone’s lead out to 6-0.
At 197 lbs., freshman Josh Hill (Easley, S.C.) got out the gate quickly with a take down and would ride his way to a pin victory early in the second period to give Limestone the 12-0 lead. 10 } – #11 Minnesota State Overpowers Mary 26-10
Mankato, Minn. — 11th-rated Minnesota State won seven of ten matches in overpowering the University of Mary by a 26-10 margin in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wrestling action in Mankato Thursday night. Senior Trenton McManus, rated ninth in the nation at 125, upped his record on the year to 5-0 to start the match with an 11-1 major decision win over Jeremy Leintz. Brock Luthens now stands 3-2 for 2020-21 after picking up a 5-2 decision over Laken Boese and Minnesota State junior Kolbe O’Brien pinned Drew Steidler at 4:59 and now owns a 4-1 record for the season. Two-time All-American Kyle Rathman, rated second in country, stayed undefeated for the year with a 9-1 major decision over Chandler Mooney in the match at 149. Marshall, Minn. – After going down 9-0 to start the dual, the Northern State University wrestling team battled back for the fourth victory of the season. The Wolves tallied five match victories, including one bonus point win in the dual. In addition, Northern won four of the seven extra matches.

MOORHEAD, Minn. — By virtue of a tiebreaker, the Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team edged Minot State, 19-18 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Thursday night at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead. MSUM is now 1-2 on the year while Minot State fell to 0-5.
