1 } – CHAYSE JACKSON NAMED HEAD WRESTLING COACH AT SMSU
MARSHALL, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State University Interim Director of Athletics Bruce Saugstad announced on Thursday the hiring of Chayse Jackson as the next head wrestling coach at SMSU.
Jackson comes to SMSU after serving the past three seasons as an assistant coach at Minot State University. Jackson, who becomes just the fifth head coach in the 55-year history of the program, takes over for Jesse Nelson, who announced his resignation on May 6 after 14 seasons as head coach.
“We are thrilled to welcome Chayse as our next head wrestling coach,” Saugstad said. “Chayse was outstanding in the interview process as his philosophy and vision made him the person to lead our program. He has a tremendous work ethic, energy and passion for the sport which will be invaluable to our student-athletes both on and off the mat. We look forward to Chayse’s leadership to help continue to build on our wrestling tradition.”

2 } – Vikings to Take on North Dakota State at Sanford Pentagon
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana wrestling team will make its Sanford Pentagon debut on December 4 with a dual against NCAA Division I North Dakota State. The dual, presented by Dental Comfort Center and River Ridge Oral Surgery, will begin at 2 p.m. on Heritage Court.

3 } – Pat Pecora Inducted Into National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame
Pitt-Johnstown wrestling coach Pat Pecora, college wrestling’s all-time winningest coach, earned induction his ninth hall of fame, the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame, Thursday evening at Lemont Restaurant in Pittsburgh.
Pecora was joined by Jimmy `Mags´ Manganello as the 2021 inductees. In addition, the Hall of Fame also presented its annual awards…Joseph B Natoli Community Award-Mr. Terry Ranieri – Posthumously, Dominic T Roppa Memorial Award-Mr. Anthony Sanzo, Frank A Santamaria Lifetime Achievement Award-Mr. Tony DeNunzio Sr., Dan Marino Sr. Organized Labor Leader Award-Mr. Steve Catanese, and the Man Of The Year-Mr. Warren Ciabattoni.

4 } – UNK AD feels program survived COVID year
KEARNEY — Reflecting on last season, University of Nebraska at Kearney Athletic Director Marc Bauer looked out for the Loper student-athletes. “The important thing was that we got our kids engaged in participating,” Bauer said. “So many kids today, starting from when they were very little, have … had sports throughout their entire life. Then all of a sudden, it was just like the door slammed shut.” Bauer was with the Loper wrestling team on the eve of their 2020 national tournament when the coronavirus pandemic took hold and they were told to go home. The same thing happened to the track team at the indoor nationals. Basketball didn’t have a national tournament. All spring sports were canceled. 5 } – Derby’s Cason Lindsey brings a gritty work ethic to Fort Hays State
Cason Lindsey had a remarkable prep career at Derby High School. Lindsey set a high expectation inside the wrestling room as a three-time wrestling state champion, four-time state placer and owner of a 143-23 career record. The next level was in the cards early and wrestling head coach Bill Ross saw that Lindsey was going to be special in the first few weeks of practice during his freshman year. “I could tell he was going to be special in his freshman year just by his work ethic and attitude,” Ross said. “He seemed much more mature than a freshman when he came in the room.” In June, Lindsey announced that he would continue his wrestling career at Fort Hays State University. 6 } – Thomas More University Unanimously Approved for Provisional Membership to Join Great Midwest Athletic Conference
CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. (August 18, 2021) — Thomas More University announced today that following a successful site visit in June of 2021, the University was unanimously approved for provisional membership in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, a Division II conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). “As a key strategic initiative in the University’s strategic plan, Lighting the Way, we have spent the better part of the past year assessing this opportunity as we want to ensure that our student-athletes have the very best experience while we enhance the regional position of the University. 7 } – Four-Time State Champion Josh Taylor Signs with UCO
Big in-state recruiting news for UCO as they’ve signed one of Oklahoma’s best available recruits in 4-time State Champion Josh Taylor. Taylor went 28-0 this year at 138 and made the Small East All-State roster at 145. He was a star during his time at Skiatook competing for the Bulldogs. This past season he helped lead them to their third straight dual state dual title and a runner-up finish in 4A behind Tuttle. 8 } – Wheeling Wrestling Releases 2021-2022 Season Schedule
Wheeling, W. Va. – After fighting through a pandemic-ladent spring season, the Wheeling University Wrestling team has released their 2021-2022 schedule. The year kicks off on November 7th at the Pembroke Classic and runs through early March with the NCAA Nationals scheduled from March 11th through March 12th in St. Louis.
Last season, the Cardinals had three wrestlers compete at the MEC Championships and had all three wrestlers place in the event. All three were freshman last season and the trio helped Wheeling place eighth overall at the event. Kale’anhe Slaughter wrestled at 149 pounds and placed fifth at the event picking up a 9-6 decision over Alderson Broaddus’s Chad Miller. Desean Mercadel followed him with a fifth place finish at 174 pounds and Clarouly Meca finished the day with a sixth-place finish at 275 pounds. Wheeling kicks off their season with the Pembroke Classic on November 7th, before returning home for their first match in the Alma Grace McDonough Center since February 18th, 2021. 9} – Northern State Wrestling Releases 2021-22 Schedule
Aberdeen, S.D. – The 2021-22 Northern State wrestling schedule is now live on nsuwolves.com. The Wolves will face-off 14 duals and four opens, running November through March. NSU opens the year at home on November 11 at 7 p.m. versus Concordia Moorhead.
The full 2021-22 schedule is below and features five home duals, featuring match-ups with the Cobbers, Southwest Minnesota State, Augustana, Wisconsin Parkside, and UMary. The Wolves are coming off a 5-0 record in 2020-21 and their first NSIC Championship since the early 2000s.

10 } – Minot State wrestling team ready to hit the mat as Beavers announce schedule for 2021-22 season
MINOT, N.D. – Coming off a shortened season from a year ago, the Minot State wrestling team is eager to hit the mats for a full campaign this time around as the Beavers and head coach Evan Forde announced their schedule for the 2021-22 year today.

11 } – Indianapolis Wrestling releases 2021-22 schedule
INDIANAPOLIS- The 2021-22 UIndy Wrestling schedule was released Wednesday, with the return of the Midwest Classic and a move to a new Super Region highlighting the season which will return to a full slate of dates after COVID-19 shortened last season. “We are excited to have a full season and move to a new region where we can build on some of our GLVC rivalries,” Head Coach Jason Warthan said. “We have a very competitive schedule that will prepare our guys for the toughest regional in the country.”
UIndy opens its season in the Ruth Lilly Fitness Center Nov. 2, with DIII Defiance coming to town. The Greyhounds then head to Maryville’s Kaufman Brand Open, which will feature many of the teams in Super Region 4, UIndy’s new region this season. 12 } – Drury wrestling announces 2021-22 schedule
SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Drury Panthers will open their sixth season of intercollegiate wrestling on Oct. 29 when they host an intra-squad dual, then will start the regular season on Nov. 7 with the Dan Harris Open hosted by Baker University in Kansas.
James Reynolds, who has been Drury’s only head coach since they started the program in 2016, will lead a Panthers team back through a full schedule after the coronavirus pandemic limited the 2021 schedule to just three regular season events and six duals before the regional and national tournaments.
This season, a full slate returns, and the Panthers will participate in five regular season open tournaments and 13 duals in addition to the postseason.
Drury will host a tournament on Dec. 4 and utilize Weiser Gym in addition
