3 } – 2021 USMC JUNIOR & 16U NATIONALS SMASHES PARTICIPATION RECORD WITH COMBINED 5,900 ENTRIES IN SIX TOURNAMENTS
During the same year that USA Wrestling celebrated its 50th Junior Nationals, the combined U.S. Marine Corps Junior and 16U Nationals set a new record with a total of 5,900 entries across its six tournaments. This continued the upward trend, going back to 2018 which had 4,999 athletes. 8 } – For Chertow Camps, it’s all about teaching the kids
By Mike Finn & Pat McDonald
For three decades Ken Chertow has had one mission: Train kids for life through the sport of wrestling. The former Olympian and three-time All-American at Penn State has been running clinics and camps since his time in Happy Valley. Since his early days, Chertow has created one of the most well-respected camps in the country … and he’s still going strong. “I started doing camps when I was in college. I was running day camps when I was in my late teens going to Penn State,” said Chertow, who coached in the Big Ten following his collegiate career. “When I finished at Penn State, I immediately started my overnight camp and during those six years of college coaching at Ohio State (and) Penn State, I was building my camps up, so by the mid-90s my camp was over 1,000 children coming and basically I was working full time for college coaching and just part time doing camps.”
Chertow decided to walk away from college coaching and focus on helping younger wrestlers. … rest of story at https://www.win-magazine.com/2021/06/02/for-chertow-camps-its-all-about-teaching-the-kids/?mc_cid=2fffafa367&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b#utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=for-chertow-camps-its-all-about-teaching-the-kids

11 } – Klessinger: Here’s how you can put negative thoughts aside and focus on winning
By John Klessinger
I have had a glimpse of carefree wrestling when competing. The time in a match when you are not concerned about winning or losing. As weird as it seems, time kind of slows down. You are hyper-alert, you react without thinking, and overly calm. I remember a few matches when it happened.
I remember back to my junior year in high school in the consolation finals of the Lititz Lions Holiday Tournament. I was the top seed and lost in the semi- finals. I came back through the wrestle backs possessed. I wrestled better in the wrestlebacks even though I was angry and disappointed. I didn’t care if I won or lost. I just wrestled. Nothing I did was conscious. Everything seemed automatic. In the third-place match, I pinned a good kid in the second period with seemingly little effort.
In my sophomore year in the sectional tournament, I was also the top seed and lost in the semis. In the third- and fourth- place match, I scored a major decision. The following week in the District III tournament, that same wrestler I majored went on to place fourth in the district. I lost my first match and was eliminated from the competition.
Or at the state tournament my senior year, I lost again in the semis. … rest of story at https://www.win-magazine.com/2021/09/15/20755/?mc_cid=453734be32&mc_eid=2ef7cbca4b#utm_source=feedly&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=20755
