HighSchoolOT’s All-State wrestling team for the 2022 season

HighSchoolOT’s second annual all-state wrestling team features 45 repeat selections from a year ago.

Avery County’s Levi Andrews, Corinth Holders’ Caleb Beaty, Laney’s Mark Samuel, Pinecrest’s Matt Rowland, Central Cabarrus’ Jackson Baglio, Mallard Creek’s Cameron Stinson, Surry Central’s Jeremiah Price, South Rowan’s Jacob Cox, Central Academy’s Brady Ross, Aiden Curry, and Kyle Montaperto were the lone 11 repeat first-teamers.

Andrews and Montaperto are four-time N.C. High School Athletic Association champs, just two of the 11 to ever earn that distinction. The teams are listed below with each wrestler’s record and postseason finish with career postseason finish in parentheses (ex: 1-1-1-2 would mean the wrestler finished first in his weight class during his freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons, but finished second as a senior).

There are two wrestlers per weight class on the first, second, and third teams respectively. Then, 20 honorable mention all-state wrestlers are selected without regard to weight class (for instance, 106 pounds could have three HM all-state wrestlers, while 113 could have zero).
Three wrestlers from the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association made the team, as did one undefeated wrestler who was unable to compete in the state championships (Central Cabarrus’ Charleston Baglio, a state champ in 2021, made the honorable mention team).
